A chicken that will not sit on eggs?

I have a bantam hen and she has layed 5 eggs since Saturday. However she has not sit on them. Will they hatch? How do I get her to sit on them? I have 2 hens and 2 roosters.
some hens just wont sit.. approaching mine...they wont hatch if she doesnt sit on them.. dont eat them though if they own been out for awhile
Contrary to Diane. . unrefrigerated eggs are OK to eat up to 10 days after being laid unless they are exposed to extreme grill.
Just because you have a hen with a rooster and the eggs are fertile that does not mean the hen will want to sit on them though Bantam's are particular for being the better sitter's than other breeds.
Your hen probably knows it is too late surrounded by the seaon for hatching out a brood as she does not have enough time to sit them until they hatch and achieve them raised up to an all featherd out state so that they can survive the up and coming winter.
My Chicken Breeder and Chicken Showman friends tell me that the rule of thumb is that they don't permit a hen hatch out a brood of chicks after the 4th of July as your odds of losing your chicks as the winter comes on gets greater.

Answers:    First it is a good opinion to find out if your hen is of a breed that hatches out her own chicks (broods) In many breeds and strains of chickens birds don’t hatch out their own chicks because that hormonal disparity was breed out of them. So if you aren’t sure whether she is of a breed that sits on their eggs then check out this site. http://www.ithaca.edu/staff/jhenderson/c...

If she is a breed that will brood

How many eggs does she have? --- Many hens will not sit till they enjoy a large enough clutch of eggs. How many eggs this is really depends on the hen and how plentiful eggs she can sit on top of. So make sure that in that is enough eggs to keep her busy but not so heaps that they poop out of her feathers. If you don’t want that many chicks to hatch, take away a few eggs after she become broody.

What is the nesting spot like? --- Is it a good place to hatch a batch of chicks? Most hens close to a nice comfortable nest that is darker and away from the other birds. She will also want a channel to go to the bathroom and eat away from the nest, but not enjoy to deal with other hens getting in the bearing and laying their eggs in her nesting box.

What season is it?--- It is almost trickle at my home which really isn’t the best time to hatch out chicks. Most chicks hatch out in the spring or early-mid summer because they need sometime to play external and get ready for the cold times ahead. So make certain that it is even the right time for chicks to hatch.

Is the hen ready?--- How old is the hen? Some hen breeds will hatch out chicks on their first year, while other breeds may wait till year 2-3 to start. You can also check out the hen’s tummy to see whether she has feathers or not. The hen’s feathers have to be gone so that she can sit on the eggs and keep them stove. All hens will lose under feathers as part of their summer molt, even breeds that do not brood, so this really doesn’t mean that she will brood, but she does obligation it to brood.

You can’t really force a hen to brood but you can encourage her. Broodiness is because of a natural hormone imbalance. So get her nest nice and comfy, fill it with eggs (If you don’t feel resembling using eggs at the beginning because you aren’t sure if she will ruin them or not afterwards use golf balls until you are sure) Then see what happens. If she is going to hatch the eggs she will sit on the nest night and time and only leave it for around an hour or so every day to jump to the bathroom and eat.

Will they hatch?- That depends on how well she does at brooding. Keep in intellect that if the eggs were open to extreme coldness 40degrees and below the embroyo will most likely be dead. Same with extreme bake. However if the temperature is just right the eggs may enjoy already started to incubate but will die shortly due to unproper humidity and turning.

Good luck, and I hope this helps, if you have any question feel free to contact me via email.
