Best Diet For Cockatiels?

Hi!

I am trying to get my cockatiels on the best diet, ever! And I was wondering what is the best diet for them?
Fruits are not the best food for cockatiels. Cockatiels are with ease grassy, seedy, grain, leafy, dark green veg, sprout eaters. All these foods hand over them the nutrients they require & they are the foods they eat in the wild.

Not adjectives tiels will even accept eating fruit because it's not a natural food source. Fruit should be used as a treat one and only because it is loaded with sugar, an unnatural food source to cockatiels & can cause some behaviours as well as obese tiels within those who do eat fruit.

Human food is perfectly fine for your cockatiel as long as it is natural, no saline, fat/oils, sugars etc.

Egg should NOT be an occasional food for them. It should be offered regularly as an animal protein which is important for tiels.

Seed, canary & budgie mixes or your own mixes that don't contain sunflower seed is better.

Pellets are great for those that won't eat a sundry diet.

What I feed my cockatiel:
I feed my tiel all veggies on this chronicle, not fruit as he won't eat it. At the bottom of that page is also cooked foods which he loves

These sort of foods are ideal for tiels.
40-50% pellets... (natural color, low protien)
40-50% seed
and a choice of vegis/fruits. Cooked or not.
cooked whole grains (oatmeal, cream of wheat...)
cooked beans.

Answers:    Cockatiel diet is extremely important and is the push button to having a healthy cockatiel - along with exercise.

Give your bird a good-quality cockatiel core mix (not parrot mix). These are readily available at pet suppliers and supermarkets. Be aware though that most ready-mixed cockatiel seed contains far too various sunflower seeds and these are extremely fattening. For this reason I tend to make up my own mix for my cockatiels. I buy a 50/50 mix of budgie core and plain canary seed and then add a few sunflower seed. Do not buy the seed in bulk - you are best to purchase small fresh amounts.

Alternatively, you can offer your cockatiel a pelleted diet.

Your cockatiel's diet must be supplemented near fresh fruit and vegetables on a daily basis.

Small amounts of 'people' food are fine for cockatiels occasionally. They can have a bite on crackers, cereal such as cornflakes, hard-boiled egg and wholemeal bread. Also try rice, pasta, potato, pumpkin, sweet potato - these must be offered cooked, not raw.

Cockatiels enjoy spray millet and seed treats such as honey bells or sticks. However, these are fattening and should be offered occasionally as treats solitary. Pet cockatiels can become overweight very easily so I recommend offering spray millet once a week if your cockatiel is somewhat active, or if not, only once a fortnight. Seed treats are best given at two monthly intervals.

Fresh drinking wet is required daily. Also make available cuttlebone, and calcium, iodine and mineral blocks. Vitamin supplements in the drinking dampen once a week or fortnight are a good idea, although do not leave these surrounded by the water for long as bugs can grow very quickly. Some inhabitants prefer to sprinkle powdered vitamins onto the seed or moist food, eg apple pieces or spinach. Either way, be sure to follow the product's directions next to regard to dosage amount and frequency.
My cockatiel eats just about everything.adopt meat. I ffed him his regular seed, but whatever I have for dinner, he other gets to eat what he wants. He particularly loves mashed potatoes.
Fresh fruit and vegetables are great. If you can obtain him to eat the pelleted diet you get at pet stores, it has vitamins and minerals within it
