Can a brand investigational born duck right away swim?
We have a duck sitting on some eggs and they will be hatched soon and we have a small pond. I be worried if they can't immediately swim, we need to drain the pond.
No need to drain the pond. They follow momma and momma will know when they are ready. Sweet of you to think of that. Not precisely like draining a wading pool.
sorry to contradict the others and i am not that up on this but to be quite honest no offense to ducks because i have four, they are really gooey.i dont think they should swim until about five weeks because before that their feathers are not impermeable and they can drown.
Yes. they are Ducks (they swim when they are born)
dont drain the pond. Goodluck next to that :)
Yes, Mum will produce waterproof grease and spread it on the duckling's feathers. It will be able to swim - it's born with the instinct.
Answers: The ultimate answer was right. Ducklings aren't waterproof for several weeks after hatch. One of ours drowned in its hose down dish. If you take away the ramp, the ducklings can't get contained by but the adults can. If its at ground level find something to cover it.
