Can a tot chicken enjoy stunted growth?
I have 3 baby chickens who are all 5 weeks infirm from the same litter.
One of them overcame a sickness about 3 weeks ago where she couldn't stand up and be very dull. Thought she wouldn't make it. TO my surprise after feed her some vitamins she picked up after about 5 days and has now be completely better for about 3 weeks. She is feeding and drinking fine and is very alive.
THe only she is extremely small and scrawny and doesn't seem to be growing tons feathers, where as the others grew them weeks ago. The others are about double her size and have heaps of feathers.
Its reasonable if she's was a little bringing up the rear in growth (as she was sick) but it has come to the point where on earth she is just SO small and TINY and has hardly grown.
could her growth be stunted? have anyone seen this happen before? is in attendance anything i can do?
PLEASE help, you're advice and knowledge would be great!!
It is my understanding (and please keep contained by mind that I am not, in any way, an expert) that chicks are severely sensitive in relation between their health/feedings and overall weight. According to a breeder whose post I came across, a missed feed for a parrot chick can result in a substantial difference in the bird's final full-grown weight. Miss too many feedings, and/or if the chick get ill, then this will result in an grown bird substantially smaller than other adult birds who did not suffer those complications.
Having suffered such an illness, I would not be surprised at your chick's stunted growth. Granted, I could be wrong; possibly there is a bird breeder on who can answer with more authority than me. :)
my baby dove is resembling that too; i took him out of the nest because the mother rejected him and I've been hand feeding it for roughly 10 days. there were two baby doves, and the moment one already has all his feathers and is growing real quickly; he's all fat and healthy. the one I'm taking exactness of looks exactly the same as when i first found it! i'm afraid something is wrong with him because he's not really growing, hes still so tiny :\
Answers: Because she be ill her body didn't get the nutrition needed to help her grow- So yes her growth have been stunned .. it happens in adjectives animal including us humans ...
You will need to try and offer her More protein, Calcium into it's feed .
Offer that an added of the chick started rather then the Growers Pellets ( 2nd stage scratch mix) so that it can try and confine up on some extra growth ... I went and bought a Birds fledgling mix and added it to the chick starter so that it had additional food and you couldn't tell ( at 9 weeks old) that it was delayed - we got chickens from my son's preschool and as you would expect I got the runt as no one wanted to give somebody a lift it ... we ended up with 2 :D
its prolly just a effect of the sickness
It may not increase the chickies growth, but try giving her some red gatorade. My chickie had been sick/injured & we fed her the gatorade & inside a week or so she is back to normal... they love the gatorade in the summer for some idea...
