Can you house train a duck?

I recently saw a news story on a guy who kept his pet duck in his work truck near him. He took his duck to work! Is it possible to train a duck to go to the bathroom in a certain nouns?
Nope- that one probably pooped everywhere!
Nope, its physically impossible for a duck to be house trained. They do not have the muscle strength to 'hold it in'. I know of a lot of people who own ducks and put 'duck diapers' on them. But, trust me, those are messy things to do.
Ducks are ment as external pets ( if kept as pets in the first place ) and I think its a touch wrong to keep them locked up inside. But, thats just my opinion

We work with waterfowl and we have 2 male mallard who live surrounded by our home. I saw the same news story you did... and TRuST me they film things when they had been just cleaned! You cannot potty train a duck .. They do not hold the muscle called the sphincter . THat Muscle is what allows humans and other animals who do have it to hold in the fecal situation until they can go to the bathroom in a particular place. DUck do not own this. They can tell that the poo is coming or getting ready to come out but do not have the faculty to do much about it.
We have 1 duck who will get restless and hurdle down out of your lap before he poops he doe snot want to poop on you and he will almost 100% of the time kick off you first.. but that is only because he can put in the picture its coming and not because he can hold it.

There are duckie diapers... I dont suggest them. Most ducks do not tolerate them well , and you have to loose change the pad in them constantly. Ducks on average poop about 1 time every 10 minutes. SO you can see how swiftly a small pad would get soiled.

Our ducks do not wear diapers... but they are contained by duck areas in our home... these are areas where vinyl tarping is laid down over the flooring and consequently sheets over the tarp... we pick up the sheets and mop the tarping 2 times a day.. They make 2 loads of wash a hours of daylight and the clean up with them takes roughly speaking 1.5 hours a day...

THen there is enrichment... We have 2 ducks so they play together but they still entail at least 1 hour of 1 on 1 human time daily.

SO if you are thinking of getting a duck as a pet?? Unless you hold tons of time... lots of space.. Love to clean... and can afford high vet bills if your duck get sick.. I dont suggest it.

Most Vets wont see ducks... and pet insurance for ducks is hard to find. We had one return with sick from some tpye of mosquito borne virus... 1.5 hour in the vet and it was 575.00 not including labs and so on...
THat was for a vet who did not even treat ducks and be guessing...

Also then there is the issue of permits and rules almost them in towns cities and villages. and clipping or not clipping wings to keep hold of them from flying off or so on...

Ducks are not low maintenence pets. People see ours and love them and think they want ducks all the time. but they see the verbs and the smart great stuff... not all the work

We love our ducks and would never trade them ... but we have adapted our entire life to hold them...

SO I know this got off the question but I considered necessary to cover it in case you were thinking of have a pet duck...

But for your potty training question.. Nope just cant happen... Sorry...
WIsh it could!! Believe me! :0) IF you enjoy other duck questions feel free to contact us... if we cant answer them we certain know somebody who can!
Best Wishes
