Conure Behavior Problems?
I have a Dusky Conure... Though Dusky and Green-Cheek Conures are supposedly the quietest of Conure breeds, my Dusky Conure, Jazz, screams nearly all morning! Each morning, I go in and uncover his shut within. He seems fine. I open his cage to confer him fresh food and water? He's fine. So, I sit and talk to him. I pet his tail, whistle, and whisper, but when I stand, he starts nouns around. When I walk out of the room, he screams. I don't mean, "Chirp chirp," I tight-fisted SCREAMS. One of our neighbors came by to ask if we were okay! For such a small bird, it have a VOICE. Every time I walk back in, however, he shuts up, sits on his perch, puffs himself up, and cocks his manager. Why is he screaming?? What can I do to calm him down?0.o
Another problem is his biting. It HURTS! When I open his cage to permit him roam around, if you get too close or try to reach something by his, he snaps! He scream, then lunges toward your hand to bite. He usually draws blood. I hope to capture him to when you can pick him up, pet him, rub his belly, put him down... You get it. ^_^
All in adjectives, my bird has some behavior issues to work out. PLEASE HELP! T-T
Answers: The fact that he screams when you give up the room is obviously a desire for more attention. For many birds, it's recommended that you spend at least a partially an hour of time with them each day. This is true for parrot, and I'd bet that it's true for conures too. I don't think that there is a maximum or minimum amount of time that you should spend with your bird, but in the order of a half an hour would be good. The biting is most likely cause by him being upset about something. What could he be upset about? Anything range from loneliness, boredom (more toys would help), nutritional deficiencies, blood feather (inspect him), or even too small of a cage.
