Does anyone breed ringneck doves? Egg question.?
I adopted a pair of ringneck doves. I don't really know their genders, but I've have them for a few weeks. Tonight one of them laid an egg. I'm not really sure which one, but I can't tell if the egg is too 'soft' or not. They weren't within a great home before so I know I need to take them some calcium supplements, but I'm mostly concerned that an egg will burst in whichever one laid it.
It's not really 'mushy', but it feels kind of greasy on the external. So how do you know if the shell is right? I think she just laid it inwardly the past hour or so, but I'm not sure.
(I don't want them to breed, I'm just trying to gross sure that I don't need to try and get to the vet tomorrow.)
the egg should be ok .if they lack calcium they would lay soft squeeze eggs .never heard of anybody have ring neck doves as pets before. there are millions contained by the cities in greece and people consider them pests because they make balcony dirty with their droppings. i quite like them and i other leave food for them so they turned one of the flower pots into a nest 15 years ago and since then i have at smallest 5-6 broods a year. i feed the babies some times when the mother is away. they lay 2-4 eggs but usually 1- 2 babies survive. they are funny birds , contained by greece we call them decaoctures ( eighteen ) because their voice sounds like the number
eighteen (decaocto)
They nouns to me that you need to give them * grit. Either on the floor of the cage or perch covers that are cover within it for them to pick at.
I have not heard of ring-neck doves , only lace-neck doves .
I guess these would these be indistinguishable bird. !!
Answers: Hey,
I've owned ring-neck doves for years. The eggs won't discern like the kind you eat, they are more shiny and soft. Female birds lay eggs next to or without the male so it doesn't mean that the egg is fertilized. Usually, the birds will bear turns sitting on the egg and after a while if it hasn't hatched they normally break it themselves. I believe they hatch between 14-18 days. Anyway, whether they aren't fertile they will start smelling. To check them, when you get further along, hold the egg to the light. A fertilized egg will be opaque, you won't see through it. =)
