How can i describe whether my cockatiel is a boy or girl?

i dont want to take it to a vet to get it checked out. How can u tell by its looks?

If you have a normal grey female bird the underside of the tail will hold yellow bands or marks, on the mannish it is plain grey. The cheek patches on the female are a lot paler than a mannish. The tail feathers are the best if you dont have other birds to compare cheek colour with.
Good luck.
"In the cockatiel, males are generally great singers. Female cockatiels own been known to talk but are collectively quiet. The male cockatiel has bright ginger cheek patches. The females also have orange cheek patch but they are dull in color. These again are only guidelines. In other birds it is virtually impossible to explain to the difference between a male and female. The only dependable method for these birds is to take it to an avian veterinarian and have it done diagnostically."

My mom thought you could tell by beak color... until "SissyBird" turned out to be the father to "Mr. Mean"'s babies!

Answers:    Look underneath its tail
If in attendance are stripes its a female and if there is nil then it is a male
You can recount by a few ways firstly:

The male will have a very bright red patch on its cheek.
The males head will also be bright yellow.
And its what I call "Mohawk" Will be wan.
Basically the female lacks all the bright and vivid
colours a male does.
