How do I govern tot birds surrounded by my backyard?
Its spring here in Australia. The birds eggs are all catching and so far weve had three infant birds in my backyard. One got killed but theres another two surrounded by my backyard as I speak. Theyre there because I saw them on the road and put them in my front garden.
The Mum and Dad & a few other birds are constantly feed it and they keep chirping. I dont mind them being within, but my Mum does because
a) We have a cat and she wants him to go external... To do his "buisness" because she doesnt want him to do it inside...
b) She just finds them a bit annoying.
The adult birds are very protective & swoop at everyone but they dont swoop at me because Ive be trying to give them food to give their babies.
My questions are.
1. How do I draw from them out of the backyard safely without getting swooped? (Obviously they would swoop me if i touch the babies...)
2. What food can I furnish to the parents so they can feed their babies?
I heard bread can make them die because theres too much roughage in it or something. But my Dad gave them some yesterday & theyre alive today... I tried giving them watermelon, oats... anything I could find to relieve them out.
Please help. My cat might get out one day and slay them again =l
P.S. Birds are fully formed babies. Eyes open, fluffy & fat with feathers. &theyre trying to fly but they completion up crashing into the wall =l
what do you mean the wall? did you bring them inside or somthing?
What type of birds are they? It would help to know this because the food it eats would depend on the species. If you can find out the species, it should not be too sturdy to find what the bird eats and other information about it. To avoid the cat killing the kid birds, maybe you could make the bird's home past its sell-by date limits to the cat (train it, build a fence, etc.).
Answers: The best thing you can do is stop interfering with them! The parents are quite proficient of finding food to feed their babies, and if you leave food around for them in the neighbourhood the babies you could be attracting predators to them and the babies!! You are right..bread is not good to feed to birds..sure they will devour it, but it has no nutritional value. If you want to feed them put a bird feeder out absent from their babies. Keep your cat INSIDE until the babies have left your yard. It is everyday for them to hop around until they can fly. You can pick the babies up and place them in a scrub or tree where they will be relatively safe from ground predators close to cats..but there is guarantee how long they will stay put as they will be trying to learn to fly. Tell your mom by letting the cat out she is contributing to the death of aboriginal wildlife. Can she manage to be a little less unkind for a couple weeks to give these birds a chance to learn to fly and carry to safety. If she finds pets annoying...then why on earth do you enjoy pets to began with. YOU do sound approaching you care about these birds as I saw your other post, so please do something about protecting them by human being a responsible pet owner and not letting your cat kill more birds. I read your last question stating you permit your cat back out after you were told my many answerers not to, and it kill the baby bird.
From what you enjoy said they are noisy minors,(small noisy, grey territorial birds) but if you know the species it would really aid! if they are noisy minors they swoop but normally dont engender contact. Noisy minors feed on fruit, insects and nectar, I have also seen them nurture their young bread, but this is not good for them.
They should be alright by themselfs though!
PS. have u get bells or sumthin on ur cats collar? that would help!
