How do you clip live turkey wing feathers to maintain them from flying absent?

Remember that the feathers near blood in them are probably shorter than the others -so don't clip those. You can 'strim' them if you want though, (cut off the barbules on the sides) but one or two shouldn't kind much of a difference.
Yes, turkeys can fly satisfactory to get themselves into trouble, often flying over fences, and out of the pen and often like to roost in trees at hours of darkness. Clip just as you would any other birds wings, cut the flight wings, but think twice not to get too short or they can bleed very badly, and can in fact bleed to death. I keep my ducks wings clipped for duplicate reason. They can't fly far, but often "not very far" is too far. Find a network site on clipping bird wings and go from there. Or find a friend that have clipped birds wings before and have them show you how it's done. Please read my profile

Wild turkey or farm turkey? Farm turkeys are unable to fly. Wild turkey's can't fly long distances at all.
Answers: I just clipped my turkey's wings the other day. It help if you have someone to help you. Hold the wing out. I use a small duet of side cutters. Clip all of the flight feathers and at least 5 of the secondary feathers. If a plume has blood in the quill don't clip it. If a spine is growing out just leave it and re-clip in a few weeks. This time of the year and they are sometimes still molting so you hold to clip them twice. Only clip one wing. If you clip both wings they have balance and will climb up a blockade using their balanced wings to help them. Clip singular one and it throws them so far off balance when they flap that they can't even use them to help them climb.
I don't chew over turkeys can fly... or at least not more than a jump and fly a few feet.
