How long do chickens live?
I have 5 chickens, and I curious as to how long they live.
MOST lay for 5 to 6 years, but can live for 10 to 15!
This is not the case for all birds however.
Typically they live about 5-7yrs depending on their breed. . . The Cornish Chicken can die as early as 6wks whether allowed to grow tooo fast by feeding it food high surrounded by protein. . .you have to hold back on high protein nurture if they grow tooo fast.
There has be some birds who lived up to 10yrs but those that do that are very rare.
For myself,I won't hang onto a chicken that have gotten old enough that she isn't laying anymore. . . rule of the tend. Those that aren't useful have to go and brand name room for a new replacement.

i just asked this not long ago and here is what I found out. a regular laying hen can live approximately 5 or 6 years, if it is a fancy cross bred chicken the life span is shorter I have owned chickens and ducks for the ending 5 years and we just started to lose a few of ours from old age. they were between 4 and 6 years feeble, so I am guessing I was given acurate information..
