Macaw's can break your finger? 10 Points?
Macaw's can break your finger? 10 Points!
So I was looking to get a macaw because I have plenty of birds and I estimate im ready for a bigger bird. I had cockatiels, budgies, segenal parrot , finches, canaries, lorikeets ,lovebirds, cockatoo, conure, pionus, african grey mimic (Alot) But i want a macaw now. Are they really dangerous? will they bite my finger off? Im 12 so yeah O_O
I don't consider a macaw is any worse in the bite dept. than a cockatoo. They must all be be pressure bite trained. Yes a mac can shatter your finger and bite to the bone.
Just a nosy sound out. You state you had many different birds. May I inquire what happened to them? I hold every bird that did not succumb to illness or old age.
I had my finger broken by a customer's African Grey. I be clipping his wings and he was fine. When he was strutting around on the counter afterwards, he turned like a shot and grabbed my finger, which made a loud SNAP and was broken!
If an African Grey can break a finger, a macaw certainly can!
If you catch a baby macaw, you most likely will not have to verbs about that. If you get a macaw from a rescue, then I would lately say that you need to keep your fingers absent from their beaks, if you cannot fully trust them.
I do recommend getting birds from rescues. I have gotten a few of my birds from rescues and they really appreciate human being loved by someone.
I do also raise baby birds and have raise several macaws. I can tell you that our macaw babies would never even THINK of biting a person, let alone breaking their fingers.
I hope you find the bird you are looking for!
They won't whether you are nice to them. If you're mean they will. They'll nip your finger, but they won't bite it really hard as to break it if you're nice; and considering how plentiful birds you have, you seem pretty nice to them. They need attention too.
They have a VERY powerful bite! The cockatoo ac tually have the chance to do more harm as the way their beak is shaped it can cut even harder/deeper. the macaw's beak have plenty of muscle going to it, and if it needed to/ wanted to, could do some serious damage!
They do hold the strength to break or even remove a finger, but it almost never happens. Make sure you receive one from a reputable breeder that has properly handraised and socialized the bird. This will help prevent any bites from ever happening.
Cool Im 12 too, I enjoy only 5 budgies though. It sounds like you have lots of bird experience, so whether you get one while its young, and play with it alot and control it, I think it will be very nice. If it likes you why would it break your finger?
powerfully despite the danger it is always good to afford it a try, i have a macaw and he is 2, really gentle, they may seem aggressive at first but the more time you spend near them, the more they will see you are not a predator~!
Think approximately a mini-macaw, remember if you go with the big guys they do hold the ability to really put good size beak mark on you, that may result in you to become afraid, which the bird will sense and feed off of. That leads to more attacks
yes they could break your finger off next to their power, but only if there is a drive, get a baby and hand tilt it, youll be fine,
very expenisive tho, couple thousand bux
go to a breeder and get to know what you are taking on.i guess if you acquire gloves to handle the bird you should be fine good luck.
Answers: I would read out you are too young! I have had my finger broke three times. By two different birds! A Greenwing and a Hyacynth! Put it this bearing, a Greenwings bite force is as stong as a Volkwagon Bug balancing ontop of one finger! Guess what is gonna give? Your finger! You are way to infantile to get a macaw. Plus the fact, can you afford the food, fruits and veggies and toys that it will destroy similar to paper? A Cage big enough for it? Unless you or your parents are rich. I expect you, by yourself, cant afford it. Maybe get a smaller, smaller number demanding bird? One not quite as dangerous??! What kind of cockatoo did you own? A Big cockatoo like a moluccan or a small goffin or bare eyed? I suggest you achieve a amazon maybe? But a macaw is too much bird for your twelve year old body! LOL!
Wow, that is a lot of birds?
What happen to all them?
Most of them live 20 plus years.
