My bird have a egg minus a mate??
My lovebird had a mate and i caught them "making love" many times.
She dropped an egg about 4-5 months ago, but she poked at it and broke the egg.
Her mate subsequently died because of an accident. Now the female has dropped 3 eggs contained by 3 weeks, im not sure if its still from her mate...or if at hand empty.
Can someone please help!!
Also we have another boy loverbird but two different types is it okay whether we put them in the same cage?
He other is wathcing for her and her eggs and hes getting defensive when someone goes to look at the female.
Some birds have a asexual reproduction, which means that they can produce with with the sole purpose one parent.
They're re not empty, merely infertile. She will continue to lay even without a mate. What you can do is get the not genuine wooden eggs for her to have and nest on. This will keep her from the stress of laying up to date eggs.
Another love bird in the same cage should be okay IF you survey them closely. Lovebirds can be territorial so need to watch closely at first!
Answers: If she hasn't have a mate within 2 weeks of laying the eggs, they're infertile. Don't just toss them though, she'll solely lay more to replace the "lost" ones and that can lead to health issues.
Generally you don't want to cross breed species of birds. Lovebirds can not be imported into the US anymore, so any further breeding is done by birds already surrounded by the US. Mixing the species is seen by enthusiasts as a huge waste. Most offspring are sterile and some can own other health or behavioral issues depending on what species of lovebirds you mix.
If you just want a friend for your bird, you can try letting them out at the same time (closely supervised- not adjectives lovebirds, regardless of species or coloration, will get along no matter what you do) and playing.
Some birds lay eggs without it even individual fertilized.
Female birds lay eggs ALL THE TIME without mate. It just means the eggs aren't fertile -- it's NOT asexual reproduction.
