Many Tamed birds find their owners shoulders a great place to be. They are close to you, it is comfortable and they can travel around the house with you.
Before you teach your Bird to sit on your shoulder you obligation to make sure they fell safe and comfortable stepping-up and also self walked around the room with you. Once you get them to sit on your shoulder you will find this is their favorite spot. First own your bird step-up and then simply put your finger level with your shoulder and your budgie will do 1 of 3 things.
One he will hop on, two he will fly absent or 3 he will remain on your finger.
If he jumps on your shoulder reward him, if he doesn’t budge put millet in front of him and next when he reaches for it gently help him up on your shoulder, whether he flies away try again.
With tramming a bird once they step up they automatically jumped up on the shoulder. Once he sits on your shoulder and you can talk to him minus him being fearful or showing signs of getting ready to fly then you can start moving around the room slowly and obviously reward him for good behavior.
If he flies off, try again. Remember sessions should only be between 10-15 minutes long and whether you find he is stressing out try again the next day.
Your patience will repay off.
I know the impression. :'( I am always asking mine, "Did you GO yet?!"
ably what are you doing to get it on your shoulder? if its a new bird you simply got, its probably scared, you will be able to do it faster soon.
Answers: It depends on the way you get him/her on your shoulder generally, it may be something you need to practice first on other objects. The most common practice of getting your bird to go on anything is to start near this technique. Take your bird out of its cage in whatever approach you do now. I mean, if he or she will hop on your finger, great! That is the first step. If he or she won't, afterwards you have to, have to, have to, develop A LOT of tolerance and willpower to, on a regular basis, delicately approach the cockatiel regularly and stroke its head, the top of its beak, essentially repeating this same soothing patient gesture over and over, all the while cooing to him or her and person over all very trustworthy to the bird until he or she hops on your finger. Once you hold established that you are friendly, awesome, and fun to be around (by the way cockatiels are pretty smart birds and really social, mine used to miss me when I was gone and once I came surrounded by the home would sqwak like you wouldn't believe until I gave her attention) on a regular foundation, "walk" your cockatiel over and over from one hand to the next in front of you. Switch your hand from one to the next so your bird kind of has to step on to the subsequent hand. Then you have established that putting something up to the bird's feet manner "step on". That's really the point, you are training your bird to step on to whatever you put in front of him or her. So that, after a while, you are training your bird to do this automatically. Put him or her on a bookshelf, then hold him or her off with the practice of putting your fingers up to his or her feet within a stick-like fashion (you know what I mean, so your fingers look like a sturdy stick for the bird to perch on). This will next work whenever you want your lovely little cockatiel to go on your shoulder. It will be natural to him or her after a while. If you still have trouble, remember that its really moderation and building of trust that is needed.
He should not be allowed to do that!!
