My cockatiel have be sneezing lately, could he be sick?
My cockatiel has been sneezing a lot lately. However, they aren't dry sneezes, their regularly wet, like human mucus. Sometimes it sounds like he may even be sniffling, or something of the sort. His nostrils are slightly inflamed, however, everything else seem perfectly fine for him. He acts the way he other does, he's eating and chirping like always. Could it be something big, or am I basically overreacting?
Answers: With birds as with all prey species, unlike with dogs or cats or other predatory species, it's best to over-react. Millions of years of evolution hold equipped them to hide illness and weakness until it's pretty far gone. If in that is discharge and inflammation, then this has likely be going on for more than just today and while it may not be serious, chances are better that it is than it isn't. My proposal is to get him to a vet that specializes in birds, i.e., not just the regular vet but an AVIAN vet, and do so ASAP.
