My sparrow's turning BLUE??
I have a 4 month old sparrow that I've raised since he be 4 days old. He has been on equal seed mixture since he was weaned at around 2 months of age. Today I noticed that some of his feathers are turning an iridescent blue-green! I use no chemicals contained by my room where I keep him, there is zilch he can get into, no dyes or strange foods. Some seeds in his food look resembling they've been died green, but he's been on it for months, before he molted to his grown feathering. He still acts perfectly normal, eat and drinks regularly. Should I be worried?
Many birds have iridescent coloring in sunlight or bright light. If it is not the coloring from the seed rubbing off then it is the beautiful unconscious coloring coming out from good care and diet,
I wouldn't worry, sounds like that's either his full-grown feathers still coming through, or his winter plumage. If he's still bouncing around and eating quite happily, and his poops look a mundane colour, then I'm sure he's fine. One of the first indicators of illnesses like fleas or malnutrition in birds, is green poop.
Do you know for sure what species of sparrow he is ? You might own a blue tit instead of a sparrow.
take him to the vet.
if the feathers dont look "sick" or "dirty", you dont requirement to be worried. if they do look "sad" or "droopy" you probably should take him to the vet.
Answers: Which type of sparrow is he? It may be he is just finally starting to get his adult plumage. There are 100's of types of sparrows and not adjectives of them stay brown/grey/black. Since they are showing up as an iridescent color, it could very well be that this could be his normal full-grown coloring.
