Actually it can take up to a year for her to lay, you need to research the breed and provide her with oyster shells to munch through.

This site will help you find the breed and actually tell you roughly speaking them. Plus you have to consider the temperature, if it's cold clear in your mind breeds will not lay during winter. Plus, if they are feeling stressed.
First off it sounds approaching you might have a Barred Rock though breed doesn't matter.
Pullets will start to lay at about the age of 5-6 months.
Feeding them Layer Crumbles will relief BUT you are working against daylight hours as one of your answers suggests.
Even though you start your chicken on Layer Crumbles this time of year does not mean she will start laying. She requests a minimum of 14hrs daylight to also encourage laying.
Some chicken raisers/breeders will use a light bulb surrounded by their hen house set to come on around 3am to help supplement the daylight requirement.
Keep in mind,a hen is resembling a woman. They only have a certain number of eggs and once those are gone, you will enjoy a bird that no longer lays.
I just let nature pilfer it's course as I don't want to "stress" the hen by making her lay eggs when Nature has built in a normal "resting" extent for the hen.
Age that chickens start laying is different for some variety. Look at this web site to identify what U have. www.murrymcmurryhatchery.com
Indeed. It all depends on the chicken breed. I would bequeath your chicken two more months. And for the record, most chickens don't lay eggs during the winter. I have 5 month-old Australops I ordered from McMurray Hatchery and they probably won't lay until they're 8 months.
Answers: Depending on her breed she is at the right age to begin laying. Sometimes you can give chickens a greater protein feed to stimulate laying. I don't usually do that. Just nurture a good layer formula. Do you have a standard lamp in her house? All birds naturally lay eggs in the spring. Increasing the amount of insubstantial will trick the chicken into thinking that winter is over. they are most productive when they are exposed to 14 hours of light per day.
