When migrating, how far and how several miles per year do birds (eg. geese or similar size) travel? ?

Other sizes of birds would be interesting too.. not to fussed.
How fast do they go usually?
Do they whip up different positions in the order of first only because the organize bird is tired or would they twitter (or whatever) that perhaps it wouldn't be a good idea not to follow as it's time for a toilet drop by?

Answers:    Geese can and have been known to travel 300-500,miles surrounded by a day depending on the winds and the direction they are blowing.

Geese and other birds often travel at hours of darkness.

Small finches up to 200 miles once again a lot depends on wind speed and direction.

It has be known for some birds to cross from the U.S.A. to Ireland and the U.K. in a day but once again Wind speed and direction enjoy played a part in this.
