I think broiler chickens are for food, aren't they? You typically butcher them before egg lay...

Otherwise, chickens generally begin to lay around 5-6months of age.
The best resource I hold found for anything to do with raising chickens is www.backyardchickens.com
The people are deeply friendly and there is a ton of great information.
Answers:    Broiler chickens are typically for meat. You can keep hold of them until they lay eggs but you will need to watch their weight completely closely so that they do not get to big and have a heart attack. Try this website, they might have some info on this adjectives though not many people keep meat birds for eggs.

If you can preserve them alive until they are around 5-6 months then they should start laying eggs.

Good luck
