Why do birds particularly pigeons surrounded by cold weather perch on electrical wires?

Do the wires offer some sort of heating for them?
Answers:    As it gets colder, heat units require more and more energy as citizens use them more. As the current is increased, the wires heat up even more than they normally do. Standing on them offers the birds a free source of grill.
Yes they do offer some warmth. Also good place to perch and at hand is not much snow build up on them. Good vantage point for the pigeons also to see predators.
