Why does my bird suddenly hold a long beak?

My parakeet all of a sudden grew a really long beak and I don't know why! Anybody know?
Suddenly? They cannot grow one all of a sudden, must have be happening over time. Does anyone else notice the change?
I think what you're notice is the new growth that appears different that the older beak tissue.

Beaks grow slowly over time, not suddenly. If it's severely overgrown you may have to nick him to the vet and they will grind the beak down to its normal size. Give him a cuttlebone to chew on - they are little flattened white ovalish things that are sold in pet stores in the bird unit. You hang it on the cage bars and the birds bite at it to get calcium and to help keep their beak trim.

If he is eating and drinking well it's probably just getting for a moment too long and you just happened to notice it. Hanging the cuttlebone within his cage may do the trick. Otherwise, if it affects his eating conduct, he'll HAVE to go to the vet.
Answers:    Noone as yet has mentioned the opportunity of scaly face mites. That will affect the way a beak grows and will engender it longer. You may need to get the bird checked at a vets whether you dont know what signs to look for. Early stages it wont look like pictures in the internet as they always show the worst of crusty face, but it will begin to change the shape of the beak.
Cuttlefish is not the solution for beak, its just something they play around with.
idk but you might want to take it to a vet or buy it a cuttle bone or one of those perches made out of stone that assistance your birds feet and beak. cuttlebones would help keep your birds beak surrounded by check and so would one of those perches.
it got horny
Ain't nil wrong with having a big pecker.
If the beak is too long, you need to take it to the vet to receive it clipped. If the bird's beak gets too long, it interferes with its ability to devour and the bird could starve. As for why it gets long, could be an illness or just could be the bird isn't consumption its cuttlebone or mineral block and wearing it down. Best to get it to a vet for an exam.
