Why does my canary keep hold of lay eggs?
I have a female and a male canary and she keep on laying unfertilized eggs. She's been laying eggs constantly, and even when I whip the male and the nest out, she still lays eggs in her food bowl. All her eggs have so far be unfertilized, so don't know what is going on with her. Any information would be helpful, thanks!
It may be breeding season, so she may have the urge to lay eggs.
Are you certain you have a male and a female some times they may mate even it they are both females. May be that is to say why you get so many eggs and they are not fertile. have you looked at the eggs next to a flash light when they have been sit on for about ten days? Unless you have had the birds sexed by a vet you may not own a male and female.
Answers: Hello, it seem like your bird is getting to much Light. Please put your bird to bed earlier, cover the cage next to a blanket at 5.00 so she can begin her molt, if she hasn't. I had a womanly like that, I had to keep her covered adjectives day to discourage her from wanting more eggs. Please offer her lots of calcium, like a cuttlebone , boiled eggshell, also unprepared brocolli, dandelion, and toast. Egg laying depleats the bird of calcium, and she needs rest from egg laying. Wait until March to agree to her try again. Oh, and if she is trying to lay eggs in a seed cup steal it out and use another type.
Separate the male bird, put him in another cage, soon you will hear him singing more too.
In most cases beside this type situation, the male is sterile...try another male.
Birds tend to lay many eggs. eventually she will stop. she is lay so many eggs in hopes the male will fertalize them
sometimes birds lay eyes contained by stress.
