plz answer everyday i find a bunch of feathers like10 a day underneath her cage wat should i do( i yell at her contained by a normal voice telling her to stop it n she does but wen im not around i think she still plucks /scratches i believe she is scratching or plucking plz any advice
donate it a cracker
plucking can be:
Nerves
ILLNESS (anythign from internal to external mites)
Boredom
Fear
Environmental reaction
Habit
Diet
Yelling at her to stop will only make it worse.
first you involve to take her to the vets, have them check her for mites AND do a full blood work up too, you want to rule our any medical reasons, kidney, liver and neurological problems are the usuall internal culprits, mites are the usual external culprits
assuming those tests come back majority and shes given the all clear...or they come back with something and you grasp the correct medication to fix it the rest is up to you.
in terms of step 1: remove adjectives chemicals from around her cage, birds are highly sensitive to air freshners, cleaning products, ect, brand name sure you dont use any of these around the house and move her well away from window if you have them open (they can take on the wind)
step 2: Give her more toys and out of cage time, Boredom is a HUGE culprit for plucking, it gives them something to do when there bored...she requests attention and lots of it.
step 3: Stop yelling at her, this will only make her coy and shell do it more.
step 4: remove anythign that could be making her nervous/fearfull, if you have other pets keep them absent from her cage and remove them from the room when shes out...
step 5: give her time, spend lots of time with her, whether shes been doing this for a while now, even if you return with any health and environmental problems she may continue to pluck out of habit (like staple biting) the more time you can spend with her and toys she has ot play with the smaller number likley shell get bored and start plucking...
step 6: evaluate her diet, what is she eating, she needs a intensely varied diet, a high quality nut or pellet diet suplimented with lots of fresh healthy fruits and veggies, buy her some forraging toys toys where you can stow some of her favorite foods that makes her have to work to get to them...you want to make available her as much to do and keep her busy and recreate NATURAL behaivours as possible...remember parrots will spend almos ttheir entire light of day FORAGING and eating, and playing...
good luck, plucking can be a hard one to break.
Its a sign of your parrot is nervous/sick. Take your parrot to a Veternarian ASAP.
Ps Dont yell at your copycat - I know you yell because you care for it but it cant understand you, it think your angry at it. This could be contributing to the problem.
i.e. depression. its not getting enough attention. it needs a tv, or you need to cart it out more. possibly get another bird kept in a seperate cage that it can see and converse at when you arent there.
even snakes can get depressed. my friends snake refused to guzzle and eventually died.
Answers: what kind of impressionist is it? if it is a big parrot like an african gray or a cockatoo afterwards they often rip out their feathers because they are stressed or lonely! In that case you have to spend more time beside your feathered friend. If it's a smaller parrot like a budgie then they are basically molting.
she is either sick or is gonna make a nest. cuz we used to have 2 conures (boy and girl) and they used to pluck their feathers and later they layed an egg. go figure.
typically they pluck because they are stressed.. tired... uncomfortable... or in unease. this can become a serious problem. you should take her to the vet whether the problem continues. to stop plucking play with her more and make sure she have a big enough cage. and she gets fresh food and dampen plus enoough sunlight and sleep look at this web site :http://www.funnyfarmexotics.com/IAS/Blan...
