Why is key to trim my birds... claws?

If they are overgrown, it makes it difficult for your bird to hold onto things and take stuff. They curve... and if they keep growing, they curve to the point of discomfort and inconvenience. In the wild, they would easily wear out through the wear and tear of living in the woods. In an unnatural situation, they just don't hold the activity level to do it themselves. You have to give a hand them!

Good luck!
Mr Taco said it well!

Don't be afraid of trimming the nails, or have someone else do it! They get over the trauma in about 5 minutes.

You can try egtting the cement perch, that helps. also, put perches of varying shapes in the pen. nONE too big or small, but enough to where it is more like the inherent contours in nature.
Because overgrown talons cause discomfort for the bird.
Two reasons. 1) If they get too long, they cause throbbing when the bird tries to walk or perch. 2) It's easy for them to get caught surrounded by fabric (or even the bird's own flight feathers, as one of my budgies manages to do occasionally! But his toes are weird.), and whether a bird gets stuck, then it gets startled and could either injure itself trying to get free or die of a heart attack.
Answers:    If to long they can cause sores on foot as causes the bird to perch and step wrong. Also can snag them on things and win caught and also can break off and blead like crazy. They can also scratch themselves and draw blood whether nails to long and sharp.
