Why is my cockatiel hiding?
i have a male cockatiel. usually he sits on my shoulders or walk around the computer table and stuff. when i leave the room for 2 minutes or so, he goes under my covers and starts to sing. when i stride in the door, he stops singing. he just sits there for a long time. when i hold a peek, he makes hissing sounds. he eventually comes out when he is hungry or something.
what the heck is my cockatiel doing?
preparing a nest probably. Do you enjoy a female cockatiel?
sounds like he is surrounded by breeding mode and dark places like undercovers, desks, beds, closets, cupboards are massively inviting.and the hissing is he is defending the spot he chose to want to nest..
best bet is when you have to leave the room either embezzle him with you or put him back in his round up, you also don't want him getting under something where he could get squished or hurt..or stepped on or sit on accidently so it's best to put him back in his cage or pilfer him with you when you leave the room.
Answers: Mine likes to stow too, and if I call him, to see where he is, he will not answer. Leave a cabinet door in part open, or a closet door partially open, he will find in it. They are just a nosey bird and have to investigate everything. He like to go into a box in the daytime and take a siesta. I keep a shoebox with the end cut out, beside my computer desk, and one beside my recliner. He will wander around and around, wanting me to come in here, so he can get in his box. Mine doesn't hiss anymore, used to. But they are in recent times protecting what they think is their territory.
i think he sounds cute and is basically playing with you. they do not like peek a boo it scare them. maybe he is just exploring in these places.
dear friend your bird is fine its just playing around
perhaps it likes those spots and when it see you get scared that you remove it and its hissing because its mark its teritory and its teling you leave it alone mine does the same
