Why is near a "crust" forming on my Parakeet's feeler of late above her beak?
I have a one year old female parakeet that have a disgusting looking "barnacle" looking substance forming on her nose just above her beak. I feed her polite an make sure she has plenty of river. I have her in a very big cage and do everything that was recommended when I got her. Does someone know what it might be.
Some female parakeets (and other bird species) just have peeling looking ceres. However, if it doesn't look normal to you it could be a parasite or fungus. You may want to call your vet to see whether they need to check her out.
Maybe she is little sick and has been have either sinuses or a runny nose sometimes this happens to parrot but also it could mean that she is probably allergic to something around your house If I were you I would take her to the vet to take her checked out. Just for safety sake, because I am pretty sure that You would not want her to get worst. This have happened once to my parrot and I was told by his vet that it be due to either sinuses or him being allergic to anything thing that be in my house. But it was really due to sinuses. Well I hope this information helps you out polite luck to both you and your parakeet ! :)
my bird had this, i guess its the same thing, its called crusty feet, go to your nearest vet they have stuff for it
She could be having some kind of respiratory problem, which budgies are pretty prone too.
She could also own mites that are causing this. It would be a really good idea to win her to the vet and have this checked out.
Answers: it is generally caused by allergies , check with your vet , if you cannot afford to do so , dance to the feed store or pet store and get some tetracycline and it is added a little at a time to the hose , it can caused from the mold that is sometimes in the food , i hold all my birds on a tetracycline regiment , (1 treatment every 2 weeks).
Is it deep brown in colour as well?
Some feminine budgies coming into breeding condition have deep brown ceres & what looks like a encrusted bit growing on their ceres.
If you're very concerned though take her to a vet.
how old is you bird? i thing elder birds get that. what else are you feeding her? could it be food crusting? i would try a cuttle bone for her so she can scrap her beak verbs.
hand over her a bath
