Why would my chickens do this?
I have four hens. And every time the get scared or see a hawk, the crouch down on the ground frozen not moving at adjectives, and make a sound kinda like a purring cat. So freshly about 10 minutes ago I went to give them some residue, and the door stut kinda hard behind me. 2 of the hens ran for shelter, one hen stood in attendance scared looking staring at me, and one hen crouched down on the ground making the sound. Why do they do that? Its weired.

Sometimes my chickens do impossible to tell apart kind of thing when they get upset, they crouch down with there wings slightly raise. I think that they are trying to make them selves unseen by what is scaring them.
Answers: A Hawk will only see them whether they move. So their natural instinct is to stay still. That sound that you hear routine that they see something that could possibly be a danger. They do this to alarm the other birds that are surrounding them. This way, there is a smaller opening of the hawk attacking one of the birds.
Chickens will run. Your four hens displayed the classic chicken behavior. If they are close enough to shelter, they will run towards it. If they know that the "danger" will beat them to the shelter, they will make themselves as small as possible. Usually, whether they know that you see them, they will attempt to run. Your last hen also displayed a behavior that is common among chickens, she assessed the potential vulnerability before she made a move. Seeing that the loud noise did not produce a predator, she and the other hens would have simply gone roughly speaking their business.
This will also desensitize them, the more often the door slams shut, the less it will bother them. Now, whether you were to shut the door loudly every time you fed them scraps, I could nearly guarantee you that by the end of the week, they will come running at the sound.
Hope this answered your question :D.
Its a response to the predator, by crouching down and holding still, they are less likely to be spotted by the hawk.
:)
Wow... I wouldn't know. Maybe it's simply a weird reaction when they're scared?
probably growling because they were scared.
Its an instinctive response to predaters flying over principal or loud noises etc.Its not for nothing that cowards are called chickens. When so masses animals and people think you are tasty you'd be alarmed too
They want to cross the road.
Oooooohhhhhhhh, I merely couldn't resist that one.
They were afraid of the hum coming from the slamming door.
When chickens see a hawk, they crouch down so that they are not as easily spotted.
