Will my chicken be ok?
I have a chicken Feathers. She is a very healthy chicken. I agree to my two chickens run around outside all day external, the coop is too tiny and hot. They love being outside. Anyway recently I notice Feathers seemed to have only more or less four big tail feathers left. Not sure how it happened but probably a result of her batty journey THROUGH a mesh wire fence. Anyway will she be ok? She is 14 weeks mature, and I'm just wondering if it will influence her egg-laying.
Thanks for the answers.
Answers: if the loss of feathers is an accident(i.e. the mesh fence) she will be fine. whether the loss is due to predator then u must deal with the predator. remember even mice surrounded by the coop r predators. as long as a predation situation exists, egg production will be off, because the bird is kept nervous. the feathers will grow back over time.
She should be ok although letting them run loose is hugely dangerous as hawks, and coyotes and cats and dogs love to kill chickens. I know they love to run free, but may be something grabbed the chickens tail and pulled the feathers out I hold had that happen to my chickens. I have see dogs and cats grab a chicken by the tail and pull all the feathers out and to be precise the only reason the chicken escaped with its go. I don't think that will affect the egg laying.
