Will my pigeon's eggs survive?
I own 4 pigeons and two of them, a male West of England Tumbler and a female Flying Roller, have made a nest and own laid 2 white eggs. They are sitting on them every day and seem to be taking good diligence of them. But the only problem is thats it's winter! It gets, like, -20 C some night, and I'm worried that when, or if, the eggs hatch, will they freeze to death? Wild pigeons and doves only lay eggs within the spring and summer, so why did mine lay them now? Please help me! I don't want the babies to die! Thanks
It sounds naive, but I think you can put them close to a grill source. Then they will have a chance to survive, no situation how cold is outside.
My pigeons laid eggs the year round, although less in winter, when housed surrounded by a coop shed unheated.. More than likely the parents will take care of them even within cold weather. If the worst happens they will nest again.
Answers: Mine lay eggs year round. They also hatch and rear them year round! Around here night are around 10 degrees F. So I would say if worst comes to worst, they should still breed it. Are they out of a draft and the wind??
