2 month aged kitten is terrified of toys?
I'e had cats before, but not this young.
We lately adopted him today and he is 2 months old. We've have him for about 5 hours.
We bought a little dangly toy for him, with some barb things on it, but he is scared to death of it.
I was dragging it along the floor and he saw it and freaked out and run under his blanket.
He's totally fine with everything else, it's just the dangly toy that he seem to be scared to death of.
Is this normal? Is it simply because it's a unknown environment?
Poor kitten purely got introduced to a new home/ setting. Give him time to adjust to his new enviroment and your kinfolk. Then in a few days introduce toys.
Cats play in establish to learn their basic survival techniques. He have yet to adjust to his new surroundings. Don't forget that at 2 months of age he is only just about to comprehend what a human is, let alone a brightly coloured feathery entity being dragged through his new domestic terrain. He could very possibly deduce that it is a predator whose domain he has ventured into. Just do what I did: leave the toy lying on the floor as whether it is dead, and then see what happens.
Answers: Its strange how thier minds work. I have 2 month old kitten that hates toy bears. Any other stuffed animal is fine but she will hiss and attack any teddy bear. (Weird) Cats don't close to things that are unknown. Get it something small like a mouse and place it in your hand. Very discretly stroke its rear legs with it. After about two minutes let it sniff it. Then place the mouse fundamental him. On his own he will investigate the toy and realize it already has his sent. (So he must of played with it, Right. Wink)
Depending on whether the toy you got make a jingle noise or the size of it. Can make this process harder. But it can be done.
I'd let him be if he's afraid of it. introduce it again when he's elder. It sounds like he's not ready for it yet.
Simple. Some cats don't trust toys because sometimes the consider its a predator (like an owl, they have been known to prey on rampant cats :( ). Others like mine don't like them because the can find out what you use it for (like getting them to go into a room, something you should do to maintain small kittens until it reaches around 5-7 monthes old). It's perfectly normal, adjectives cats like and dislike something!
It's cause its scary.
Avoid that toy.
