2 question for 2 different cats?
first question: my 9 year old nuetered male cat, blacky, (i be 3 when i named him!) has been acting abnormal since we got another cat, kitty. he is weird on the firts two floors of our house(doesnt let us pet him), but is fine on the 3rd(hes presently rubbing up against my leg). our other cat kitty, never goes all the way upstairs. is that why?
moment question: our rescue, kitty is a year old, and is getting spayed this week. she usually stays on the moment floor, with me and sleeps with me. but never goes upstairs and go downstairs to scratch on the scratch post, since downstairs is like nuetral realm, lol. (they both have all claws) well, shes still uptight. how do we get her to calm down? we got her 6 months ago, and thought she be spayed, but she wasnt, so were getting her spayed soon.
Answers: It is probably a territorial issue. On the third floor, he is supreme and free of the other kitty. And even though he is neutered, you rescue is still putting out hormones. Once spayed, things should change relatively a bit.
A one year kitten has a tremendous amount of energy, while your 9 year old cat is a senior citizen. That can be sometimes a bit of an adjustment. Just similar to some grandparents are happy to see their grandchildren, they also know the kids are leaving. In the case of your kitten, she is not disappearing.
In a multi cat household, it is very important to allow for vertical separations. In other words, can your cats cross the room at different levels, such as jump from furniture to furniture? Just that simple thing defuses potential conflicts.
Often when a new cat comes into a domestic, it upsets the dynamic, and it is important to try and give both cats equal love. It can also take time for things to settle down. As long as within are not constant fights or spats, sometimes that is the best one can hope for.
i agree near mr cat lover person:) the same thing happen with our 16 year old cat hendrex and our 8 month old rescue dexter
