2 year hoary cat pooping external litter box ?

My 2 year old cat has started pooping on my carpet when here is a litter box 5 feet away. This only happen sometimes but is getting more frequent. She does go poo inside the box sometimes and always goes pee. I enjoy her and another younger cat so I have 2 boxes that I clean everyday. When this started happening I brought 1 box up to the smooth where she was pooing because I live on a 2 story condo but it doesn't seem to enjoy helped. And like I said it is not every time only sometimes.
She's mad about something. My daughter and her two cats lived with us for a year. The younger masculine would eat all her food and throw it up on my carpets and she would pee within the box, cover it and crap on the floor RIGHT NEXT TO ME! Couldn't break them of either habit, but I'm glad they all finally moved out.
As strange as this may seem, it could be the litter. I purchased what I thought was natural, "green" litter from Petsmart and my eight year old cat began leaving her remains on the floor. I could not work out what was going on since this had never happened back. My second cat didn't mind. When someone mentioned to me that cats can be fussy about their litter, I changed to another brand and the problem be alleviated. I hope this works for you.
Good luck!
Answers:    There can be several reason to why your kitty is doing this. It can range from something very simple to something severe.

Here are a few tips:

1 - Always make certain you have clean kitty litter. ( Which it seems you do. )

2 - One kitty tray per cat ... plus an additional. Make sure they are scattered through the house so there is other one somewhere near. I have 4 cats and 5 litter boxes.

3 - Try unscented kitty litter. Sometimes cats don't like redolent litter. Try a few different kinds til you find out that the cats like. I use Tidy Cats ... they have unscented ones.

4 - Try not to verbs the litter box, itself, with anything real potent. Kittys dont like the smell of plastic sometimes ... and even more so when its wash with something potent smelling.

5 - If all of these fail, help yourself to kitty to the vet. I suggest you take her to the vet regardless just for a check up whether nothing else. Sometimes when a kitty goes to the bathroom outside of the litter box it follow-up an internal problem like constipation ... blockage or a behavioral problem. The vet will be the best person to let you know, after an exam, whether its something small or big to be worrying about.

Good luck!!
Any coppers to location can really upset a cat. Return to the original place for her main box. This will help. Cats are super fussy. Moving a box 6 inches can own them completely flustered.
