An elder cat that's friendly one minute next bites me the subsequent.?

A local neigbors cat has become a bit of a friend to me. It started with a visit, after some treats, now the cat bounces back and forth between homes... My place is real silence so I think it prefers here a bit
more. Anyway, I don't handle the cat too much, like pick it up or anything it doesn't want , but when it does bounce up in my lap sometimes and I pet her for too long, she turns into a vampire and
just bites me ... I never know what to expect at times. I don't hold her
or trap her, she merely decides to draw some instant blood, mainly on
my hand. in fact, only on my hand. What the heck am I doing wrong
here. She is very close to getting the door, but I purely can't do it. When
I see her walking around in the front of my door I let her in. So
what's going on here cat associates..She's so cool but can be so
mean. Oh, this only happens once every couple of weeks.
My cat bites me adjectives the time and she is very friendly with me, it could be her way of showing you affection.
Could be the cat is going into heat. Or perchance she wants more treats or food. Have you tried givin the cat water or food? It might help.
Also cats enjoy tempers and are very moody. I've lived with cats most of my vivacity, so i know.

Answers: whether it happens while you are petting her, she just thinks that you are trying to play beside her. Most cats attack hands, thats what my kitten does too when I pet her on the back and head, she doesnt tender any warning, she just bites out of nowhere.
