Any suggestions for technique and products to use to clip kitten & cats claws weekly?
I got one of those sets of clippers at Pet Co. It looks close to a pair of scissors with a rounded end to the blades that circles the fastener. I just hold my kitty and clip the tips of her nails. Be careful not to cut too far down or they will bleed. She get her nails trimmed ever 2-3 weeks and seems to do fine with it. It took her a while to capture used to it, but now she just sits there and let me clip her nails without fuss.
I don't own a great answer, but I'll suggest that you should be sure your clipper is nice and sharp. Dull ones will tend to crack the nail and front to splitting and jagged edges. I hold one cat on my lap when I do it so I can keep a appropriate grip on her. The other I have an easier time with but since she's very anti-face I enjoy to hover over her from behind.
One good suggestion I saw once was to hang on to their paws close to their body rather than pulling them out. Supposedly they feel better almost this.
And I always give a reward right after.
Answers: I'm able to use a toe-nail clipper for people on my cat because she's so used to me clipping her nails regularly. I prefer a people-clipper because it's smaller quantity bulky and I'm comfortable using it and am able to control it better. It does NOT clip worse than one designed for animals since the cat's nails are not huge like a dog's can seize. As long as it's sharp, you won't have a problem. (There are those that will argue this, but even after years of doing it my way, I've NEVER clipped an animal's quick resembling I've seen so many do with the clipper you buy surrounded by the pet store.) I do mine about every other week.
I had put my kitty in my nouns when she was younger to get her used to it, and now I can merely go up to her when she's laying on the couch and she let me get it over with and doesn't complain or try to run away.
You'll develop your own method once you and your cat are comfortable.
