Any philosophy on how to cut down on litterbox odor?

I really don't want to buy the expensive litters out there, I have to watch my spending here citizens! I was wondering if anyone out there have an inexpensive way to cut down on litter box odor, I live in a 1 bedroom apt, the litter box is in the spinal column corner of the living room but its hidden well. I have used the litter "mix in" from citrus tricks & yes it works well but kinda pricey. Any ideas will be appreciated!
Baking soda or litterbox odor removers powders. They work like a charm :)
Feline Pine is my favorite litter, because it naturally has a fresh woodsy scent to it without any additives. As soon as it stops smelling fresh and woodsy, next it is time to change the litter. No odor, no problem. And here is the secret to making it it inexpensive - the same sensitive of pressed-sawdust pellets are used as fuel for wood stoves, and are much less expensive. If you cannot find that sold anywhere around you, try going to a farm and nurture store, and asking for Guardian, which is horse bedding, made of the same kind of pressed wood pellets. It is smaller amount expensive than Feline Pine, and still does the job.
Answers:    yes..be right back next to a good answer. ok this is what i do..it cuts down on odor and kitty litter expense. first of all use clumping kitty litter, if its not clumping litter next you will always have a bad smelling cat box. very soon after i scoop the peep and poop i push the remaining cat litter to the side and take a raining eipe and clean up the edges of the box. then i replace about duplicate amount of clean litter on the bottom of the box. then i push the old litter over the new litter. this way your kitty does his business on the prehistoric litter and you scoop that up and repeat .always replace the bottom of the pan near new litter and then push the old litter over the top. the results are that your litter is somewhat revolving so the stink is terrifically limited[much more pleasant for you and kitty]. because i only replace with what i scooped my kitty litter lasts much longer. i hold one cat box, two cats and my box is right here next to me in my office..not a problem for me. oh and i once in a blue moon feel the need to drag my box outside and do the integral cleaning thing which just sucks! wet wipe and revolving kitty litter!!
We use Arm & Hammer clumping litter and never notice any odors.

Before when we used cheap regular litter, we regularly have odor issues.

Seriously though, the clumping litter is best odor-wise because you can even scoop out the urine.

Whereas with regular litter the urine remains in the box beside the litter.
Use clumping litter, scoop repeatedly, and spray the litter box with StinkFree spray. You can buy it at www.drsfosterandsmith.com I use it all the time. It smells like babe powder. It keeps used litter from sticking to the box and scooper, which causes odors. Each can lasts a long time, particularly if you only have one litter box. Cats don't seem to be to mind it either. In fact, we hold had better litterbox performance since using it because they are not so put off by the stinky box anymore.

Also, mop up your litter box regularly. You won't have to do it as often if you use StinkFree as directed, but the box should start out verbs. I take ours into the backyard (don't know if you have any outdoor space at your apartment?) , imbue with water, add a bit of bleach, and consent to soak for several hours. Then I hose down, blasting away any stinky leftover bits with the strongest power on the hose trigger, and tolerate air dry in the sun. The sun will bleach out any remaining stains. Those stains carry odor, so I want them gone. Then, spray next to StinkFree. Potty time!

If you don't have the space or hose to do the outside routine, then here's an alternative: give or take a few once a month, dump out the remaining litter in the box (or transfer to a container temporarily if you plan to re-use it),after clean the box with a bleach/water solution. Not too strong on the bleach. Make sure there's nil around that you care about getting bleach on (I lay down white towels first). Finish with clear marine, to get rid of bleach residues, and let dry. Spray with StinkFree, and you're domestic.

Hope this helps; good luck!
Try mixing in some plain feeble baking soda (not baking powder) with the litter. Cheapest thing to try that I know of.
I usually scoop out the wet litter+poop as soon as my cats shift poop or pee. This keeps the rest of the litter really clean. Of course, I don't catch them other, but better that than once a day. Also, now they like it extraordinarily clean, so they wait for me to get domestic to use the litterbox, so that I can clean it right away afterwards!
Sprinkle baking soda within with your litter it will help u some!
Good Luck!

personally, I don't like those fragranced solutions and it seem no matter what litter I've used, the smell is never really completely gone. After a recommendation from a cat litter shelter, I started using a product called innofresh pet odor absorber. It is an activate carbon odor absorber that I find really works great. I just have a couple of these clipped onto the side of litter box and that's it. Very satisfied and no chemicals or irratiting fragrances that don't work besides.
I usually buy from company on line at www.innofresh.com
I recommend this product.
