Any correct planning for keeping a cat out of a Christmas tree?

We have a cat that's now a little over a year ripened. As I begin to see Christmas trees already on display in stores, I'm wondering if it's even worth the trouble to put one up within our house this season. We were fostering a young cat in our domestic a few years ago, and were forever having to pull her out of the tree surrounded by the mornings. We'd awake to the sound of breaking bulbs, and there she'd sit, little head poked out, and stuck within the branches halfway up. I was thinking of a pre-lit tree this time, probably a small one, but think our cat would still be tempt to climb and paw at it. Any ideas?
Don't let it
There is a product which can be found at WalMart, etc. call Bitter Apple. It is a spray that tastes absolutely horrible to cats. It doesn't cost much and once she gets a predilection of it, she will associate it with the tree and let up a bit. Good luck
Answers:    You can pick up a spray bottle from a dollar store and fill it with wet. When you see her in the tree, spray her and she will bolt out of there. It is completely harmless, she will only get a little wet and nutty. You'll have to set the bottle to "stream" because misting won't work. At night or when you are away, put the cat contained by a room where she can't get to the tree.

If you keep up near spraying her with the the water she will learn that the tree routine getting wet. Most cats hate getting wet.

Good Luck :)
