Anyone hold any concept on disciplining a disobedient cat?
My husband and I have moved to a new home and our cat, Mystic who be formerly an ANGEL now likes to play around on the counters at dark. She does not do it during the day as she knows that she is not allowed on the counters and at dark, if she sees one of us coming into the kitchen, she makes a run for it. We own tried the squirt bottle, it annoys her but like I said she knows what she is doing in wrong to start with. I am at my whits end with this issue as it really is only just disgusting to have cat hair (she is a long hair) ALL over the counters, including the fruit basket. Ideas?
This happen with my cat when we moved. It is typical for a cat to misbehave when moving. They feel like you are punishing them. What help me, is i put out cleaners with fowl smells. That makes the cat not want to get on the counter.
Ther'e Dog's decepline, trainning programmes, but, I don't know in the order of Cat's decepline, trainning programmes out toget some help.Cat is part of your family, and she loves to get hold of attention, play, and I think She's looking for food.Ther'e many ways to decepline, like ( tuff love) get tomake rules, learn to say No, close the Kitchen door if you want purely for temperory basic, or keep talking, untill She become conscious.I think She need a company to play.
my cat have the same problems just every time it gets up nearby we spray it with a water bottle it only take a couple of times before your cat will learn
She needs to be anxious away from the counters. Try to spook her while she's up there with loud sounds, unpromising smells, or creepy items.
And Jesus, person above me, how the heck are you supposed to discipline anything? She's not hurting the cat, she's teaching it that there are consequences to behavior that she doesn't approve of. Not adjectives of us grew up with hippie parents who let us run around with underwear on our head.
spray with a bottle of water
try locking her into a room with nothing she could achieve too many hairs on! try the squirter again. shout loud or make a loud rumble. or try one of those plug-in cat noise things - that realy high note that we can't hear but they can. put it contained by the kitchen and she might not want to go in there anymore =]
Tape ballons to the counter top- the motion may scare her or when she pops one it will really scare her.
Go to Zamzows or another pet store they enjoy a spray that keeps a cat away from certain areas of the house. I get the zamzows brand and it worked great.
I don't think cats approaching citrus fruit juices. You could squirt some lemon juice at her, {not in the eyes obviously}
Scaring her when it happens, close to growling very low or shouting NO suddenly can often stop a cat.
Spray coyote urine on the counter. It'll scare her away.
wow thats horrible and it's gross it's gonna gain into your food eventually. i dont know what to tell you sorry!
Hey! My cat does the SAME thing! She never does it when were home, but when we are we find her little paw prints adjectives over the table and furniture. And when we do catch her she runs away cause she know shes not allowed. Unfortunatly, cats dont learn very economically (well, mine dont) but the best thing i can think of is find out WHY shes on the counter. does she just sit near? or do u have a plant (real or fake) on there? anything, and take it absent, or move it to the floor. I would say the spray bottle but she's still going to do it when your not around. The last thing i can regard of doing is, until she stops, dab parts of your counter with (or leave out small bowls of) rubbing alcohol, or anything next to a strong scent she wont like. Odds are she wont lick it cause its so strong, but if your worried almost it place a lid over it? Other than that, just scold her until she stops. My cat is slowly learning to stay stale the dinner table, if it makes you feel any better:)

cats cant really cram like dogs can
I hope you figure this one out. I've got the same problem. I don't give out food or anything, but she still gets up there runs around, licks the sink, and even sleeps up within! It really used to make me mad because she knows she's not supposed to do it, but she does it anyways. I enjoy to clean the counter top a million times per day- which I should pro bally do anyways.
put some olive oil on the counter so when she jump on she just falls back off
cut off one of the legs
of his climbing tower
Your cat is not being disobedient, she's self a cat! She's in a new place and she's investigating her new living arrangements.
If you don't want her on the counters at dark, put her somewhere else. My (12) cats have the run of the house, day and night, including the counter tops. It doesn't give somebody a lift but a minute to wipe them down (counters) and the cats (and I ) aren't continually being "stressed out" because of not being allowed up there.
Your fruit picnic basket can go in a cabinet, or stuck in the microwave at darkness, since that seems to be the time that you're concerned about.
Maybe some people won't agree beside my housekeeping, but it's worked for me for many years, and no one has gotten sick from ingestion here!
A wipe down before using the counter, and a wipe down after dinner, is no big deal...compared to the constant "stress" of trying to keep hold of a cat off all the time.
Hope this redirects your concerns in the region of your cat. Good luck.
Answers: Instead of abuse her like you have with a squirt bottle THINK ABOUT providing the cat next to a new home with a loving family circle who will not abuse her and who will love her. Someone should report you for animal cruelty! It's wrong what you are doing with a squirt bottle and even worse your looking for a way to further discipline her! Please judge about giving her to a good home ASAP.
If you can't toy with a cats behavior and cat hair you seriously should not have a cat.
You are making that poor cats like depressing.
Please give it a new loving home.
Roll out some aluminum foil flat completely covering the counter tops. Cover the sink as capably (not in the sink but over it). Then use double sided tape (a cheap one that doesn't have too much stick) stripped across the aluminum foil. When she jump up she will HATE having the tape stuck to her paws or fur and when she jump down she will hopefully have a big rattling noise to concord with as well which should scare the begeeses out of her! Repeat a moment night just to be sure. If after a while you become aware of her doing it again, out comes the aluminum and tape and by then she will have given up knowing that you are on to her activity! :-)
Trust me, it will work!
Since most cats do not like sea, trying leaving wet towel on the counter, of course put plastic below the towels to protect your counters. If worse comes to worse, try keeping her in a spare room during the night or invest in a significant pet cage that will hold water, food & a spare litter box.
