Anyone here own a Bengal Cat? Are they well-mannered pets?
I have an Oci, but know about Bengals. You have to be certain you are getting one from an ethical breeder. There are far too many byb's out there now that should not be breeding. Ethical breeders enjoy worked hard to make good Bengals beside good, stable personalities. So be outstandingly careful in who you buy from.
They are good pets, but awfully very active and high enthusiasm cats. They don't do well as only cats because they need plentifully of play time and interactive playing.
Some Bengals have more of a sensitive stomach and need a little special diet, so check next to the breeder on what they are feeding. A lot of them feed raw, so it might be a touch expensive for you. A good quality Bengal will run about $500 or so for pet point. Show cats are over $1,000.
Unlike a dogs breed generally decribing some self-image traits, it's not the same for a cat, or as on the button. Adopt a cat, save a life. They can be simply a big, cuddly & beautiful as a bengal cat. Sometimes you can even find bengal mixes in your local shelter. If you do go that road, make sure you buy from a reputable breeder & look up a bit on their energy & how to quench a playful cat :). Good luck.
Hi! I had a rescue ( from a breed rescue group) named Oliver for a long time. We got him as an full-size with a few behavior issues. They are so fun! I agree with the first poster here, be careful to avoid unscrupulous BYB's. They can be prone to IBS for enthusiasm and need special diets. NO CORN. I now have a up to date kitten, and we are having the time of our lives!! He is so sweet and fun! The only one unhappy here is my persian Helga. These cats are not typical cats. They aim out attention, are very vocal, great hunters, play fetch, learn to meander on lead and love to go swimming! There are a ton of websites out there near great info. Just like dog breeds, not every one is right for each family.
I've had my Bengal for a month, she is 4mths old now and she is SO full of liveliness. Luckily I have another cat to keep her entertained.
The solitary difference I've noticed is that she is very mischievous and finds trouble easily. Other things are that they are loud, strong and are on a one track intellect. eg. If she wants on our kitchen counter she doesn't forget even if we create other distractions. I love her though, she is a good pet and companion for my DSH cat.
I recommend to enjoy a companion cat for a Bengal though.
Answers: We have two Bengals, a male and female from matching litter, both over a year old. They're very friendly, they like to play a great deal, and they're extremely curious and tend to get into things.
Bengals are known to be less afraid of dampen than the average cat. I have filmed some of their behaviors; you can view them at the Youtube relationship I have provided.
Bengals are a mixture of several breeds, and have ancestry of a natural species, the Asian Leopard Cat.
UPDATE: I just remembered some of the other odd behaviors our Bengals do. They make energetic leaps for toys. I hold a toy in my hand, I put my paw in a position to throw, the cat gets into a pouncing position, and when I throw the toy, the cat leaps surrounded by the air in a near-somersault. They've done this numerous times, but so far I enjoy been unable to film it.
Also, they do something really strange beside their tail. When they're excited, their tail fluffs up to such a great width that it resembles a raccoon's--I'm not exaggerating. The first time I saw it, I was sitting on a chair when the "raccoon" tail appeared from underneath my form, and I almost jumped.
No I dont own that, But I do like Cats.
