Anyone here work at a vet's bureau?
Hi-
Ok, my cat is sick. We took him to the vet today because he hasn't eaten in 3 days, he doesn't really drink anything, his fur for some point isn't the real soft fur like a normal cat, it's really wirery and nearly unhealthy, he's lost weight like crazy (he used to be 15-20 lbs and very soon he's 9 lbs). After they did the blood tests, they said right off they could tell his blood wasn't clotting that briskly. I am supposed to get the results tomorrow, but does anyone have any ideas of what it could be?
I'm not a vet, but I have worked at a small pet shop for 11 months.
Sometimes cats get hairballs stuck surrounded by their stomachs that require surgery to remove. But the weight loss is a large one and that could mean a tumor. It could be cancer. Or profusely of things...
There's a lot of things that could be wrong with your cat, but there's not really anything anyone can tell you over the internet near just that information, even if they were a vet.
You'll enjoy to wait for the results.
I'm surprised that your cat's bloodwork was sent out and not run immediately surrounded by house. Unless they don't have in house lab machines, which is unfortunate.
Your cat is not "nearly unhealthy," it is seriously unhealthy. I assume they gave your cat some fluids underneath the skin before they sent it home.
There are a number of things that could be wrong next to your cat, the bloodwork will help your doctor decide what it is. But anorexia, weight loss, poor fuzz coat can be symptoms of too many different disorders. We can't really answer that for you over YA.
Answers: It could be so abundant things, but the two most common concerns would be thyroid and diabetes. Both are manageable depending advancement of the disease. Our clinic just have a basic cbc machine which doesn't allow a a T4(thyroid) check. Sending out labs is pretty common contained by most of the vets offices around here so I wouldn't be worried about that.
In adjectives honesty though we're all just shooting in the pitch-black here. Relax and cuddle up to your Kitty, you'll know more tomorrow and your your vet will work with you.
Has your cat be vacinated for distemper? It sounds like distemper. You stipulation to force feed your cats or have them give him an IV surrounded by order to keep him hydrated.
Any animal who goes short eating and drinking for multiple days will become dehydrated. If you are dehydrated your blood will become gummy and like sludge over time. SO the fact that your cats blood will not clot is an issue.
Keep watch over him! Ensure you enjoy the vets emergency number on hand and get those results hindmost ASAP, so that you can get him treated.
Could be diabetes, thyroid or a whole host of other things. Hope your cat get well soon.
There is no point worrying yourself sick. Wait for the results. Don't take any notice of what folks say on here either because it is most likely wrong. There are so frequent illness' and diseases cats can get. So, once again don't worry yourself sick, your cat will sense it aswell.
If his blood wasn't clotting quickly, it could be a vitamin K deficiency, which is pretty strange. The hair problem sounds like it is a vitamin or mineral deficiency too. It sounds completely metabolic contained by nature, and I'm sure some diet suggestions and a couple days at the vets near IV fluids and treatment could perk him back up. How old is the cat?
okay that question wuz really long
