Anyone hold tips for tranquillizing a cat down earlier a trip?
Every time I have to take my cat to the vet he panics even whether I don't give him any hint that he's going he somehow senses it and then he panic and runs around the house and hides and then it's fun trying to catch him because he's speedy.
He wasn't too bad this morning but other times he growls and howls.
First off, you cannot nouns yourself. Animals pick up on it. Second, Always, and I mean always, make going to the vet a positive ordeal.
my dog be abused as a puppy and he wont let the vet (or groomer) anywhere near him unless he is sedated. Ask your vetfor a perscribed pill and give it to your cat formerly you go. your cat will run out of energy and most likely sleep the unbroken way there. It is toatally safe and wear off with in a few hours.
Answers: Most times a cat rides in a car - its to the vet's bureau and many will act like yours does. IMO its better to hold them out in the car on non-vet trips so they are more used to things.
Start in your neighborhood. Go a few blocks and turn around and come domestic (do NOT go in the direction of the vets). Then give him a treat and tolerate him out. Next day do the same thing. After a few trips, increase the milage. Take the cat out for a drive roughly twice a week.
If you have a Petco/Petsmart near by, then budge there with the cat. Let him ride in the carter in the store and if its quiet, give somebody a lift him out of the carrier while in the store and let him see its not a vet and perhaps let him play with a few cat toys (feathers) or let him on one on the small treehouses. Keep him lower than control. If you do this enough, then he will be a lot better contained by the car in the future.
My show cat, Charlie, loves showing and he dives into the shipper when it comes out - he knows he will being going to a fun place. Since the vet trip is very rare, he will do the same - loves his carrier. Now I'll have to train his brother Jack (next spring) to be only just as willing regarding carriers.
A pinch of chamonmille tea leaves in food or water is a secure and effective method for calming an animal. Ask your vet over the phone exactly how much to hand over and how long before travel. I used 1/2 a tea bag for a 40 lb dog.
It is really strange how cats can sense things or something, like they have exta sensory perception. My kitten is enormously used to riding in cars and loves it so whenever we take her out, she doesnt care but when I be going to take her to the vet, she gave me a hard time. I'm close to, how did you know?
I could suggest giving him some treats while petting him so he gets comfortable, before putting him within the car.
