Cats and their allergies. ?

We just adopted a very sweet 6 year infirm fixed male. His previous owners informed us that he has food allergies and have had reactions to shots. He's on a special diet of dry food. Our current cat eats drizzling food and he's a this morning they actually ate together with minimal hissing. but the male considered necessary the wet food.

I'm just wondering if relations with more experience can tell me more about cat food allergies. What are they allergic to specifically within the food? are their any brands of cat food available for cats with food allergies or is it only vet brands? Are their wet food option? If he accidental eats the other cats dinner should I be ready for an emergency run to the vet?
Can he still soak up meat as treats? Should I switch both cats to the same diet?
I have the same situation as your. My new cat started sneezing and shred was not clear in front of the food for 4 months & I through she got a cold or something, however, the vet told me she be find.. Spent $280 for nothing but may have food allergies. So this is what I have be doing

Get a small bag or some simples to feed my cat. I started get Saloma/fish, give her 1-2 cup a day at 7am left it for 24 hours. Check up the food in the subsequent day and see how much she left over. The next week try chicken, turkey, beef or others. Just nurture her the same meat based for a week then money the other favor. Record the amount she left over and see how she react in front of the food. After a month, I am kinda seeing she doesn't close to fish, she finished all chicken/turkey cat food. She is kinda ok with beef.

Also, She sneezes alot with Iams & proplan, ok beside meow mix, does great with evo, taste of the wild, and chicken soup (she kinda stopped when she ate these brands). So I bought weakness of the wild mix with evo to feed her. Based on the money budget, i can't with the sole purpose feed evo.

The process takes time, but better to pay hurdend and hurdend for a vet the do adjectives those testes and say,"Well, we can't find any wrong with your cat, you may have to find out what kinda of food she have allergies with."

My cat only sneezes when she is in allergies, some cats may hold skin problem. If the cat eats other food than the one she is on, you don't have to run to the vet, just see how she react. If she is getting worst, then go to a vet. Allergies can be seasonal/ just a extent of time. Sometimes the cat just suddenly be fine like forever. So just keep hold of the eye on the cat.
Here's a good article on food allergies in cats:

They can be allergic to any of the ingredients, and it's generally trial and error to find out which one it is. I have a cat I suspect has a food allergy, too, though I haven't pinpointed what exactly it is all the same. It makes them itch, just like greatly of people with food allergies. Mine itches himself raw within spots.
Answers:    Did they tell you what he's supposedly allergic to? I'm guessing not. The special food they gave him probably in recent times uses a novel protein source. If that seems to be helping then his problem be likely with chicken or maybe fish.

Food allergies are more adjectives than you might think. Cats can be allergic to any number of things but the most common are grains such as corn and wheat (very completely common in lesser brands of cat food) and commonly eat meats such as chicken, and of course fish.

There are also other ingredients which may disagree with your kitty but it's more difficult to rigid those down.

My suggestion for cats with allergies is to take a stepped approach so that you have a better fortune to narrow down the problem. The easiest item to eliminate is grains. Start by switching from anything food is currently being fed to a grainless food, wet or dry. If that fixes the problem, probability are it was grains causing the response.

If not, then look at the protein source. Find a food that doesn't have any chicken or fish. This can be a little more insulting but it isn't impossible. If that fixes it, then you can pretty safely say that it be the protein source.

I would avoid "allergy" or "sensitive" foods for cats since niched foods tend to be garbage. The vet prescription diets fall into this category too.

You do have seriously of options. First, it's great that your other cat eats wet food, and you can most unambiguously feed this one wet food too. You may already be aware of the fact that drizzly is better. If not, hey, it's better! LOL Since you don't mention what brand you're feeding I can't guess whether or not it will be ok for this guy too. You can certainly give it a shot - or consent to us know what it is and we can review the ingredients.

But if I were you, I'd follow the approach I suggested. Start by selecting a grainfree can food that does use chicken. See if that helps. If it doesn't, switch to a non-chicken canned food. You *could* be in motion straight to a non-chicken canned food. No harm there. But later you won't know if the meat is the problem or if it was the small piece. On the other hand, if the problem is solved, you could always try food trials subsequently. Whatever works for you!

See the What to feed link for suggested canned foods. Most are grainfree and some do grant novel proteins (such as venison, lamb, beef, rabbit, etc.)

EDIT: Friskies does contain allergens and it's not the best quality food. So there's a good unpredictability your new guy would have a reaction to this as all right. You *could* try it but it would be better to switch both of them to a better food.

And the RC food is chock full of allergens too.

But you're right, the Friskies is actually a better food than the RC! LOL
Cat can be allergic to just about anything. You could try food w/Lamb & Rice, BUT he might be allergic to them. Find out from his previous owners what he's allergic to. As far as special food, Hill's Prescription Diet Z/D is apt, but costly.
Usually it's the grain they're allergic to. Wellness and EVO make really good grain-free foods. Fancy Feast also have a medium grade wet food that's grain-free. These foods would be completely good for both of your cats. Grain fillers in food do nothing as far as nutrition go.
My kitten suddenly have polish and is behave wonderfully?   My cat might be pregnant?   Is my roommate's cat is strangely small?   How can you report to whether a cat is cold because they hold a fur coat so i can't really relate?
