Cats are epidemic?
I live in a one bedroom apartment with 2 cats (~1 yr, and 8 mo). For the past few months they own begun to get food crazy. All they do all daytime is sleep and search for food. This has led to overturned trash can and trash strewn about the apartment. It has led to the destruction of bread loaves. I've never have a problem with any of my previous cats and am feeding these more than the ones I have prior. It is the same food, so I'm at a loss as to what to do. It's as if I'm not feeding them at adjectives. I even tried giving them an entire days portion of food all at one time, and they ate all of that in one sitting and forthwith started opening cabinets looking for something else to eat.
Has anyone ever have a situation like this, and is it fixable? They are insane!
Get child proof latch for your cupboards. Buy a bread holder or put it in the microwave. Get cans with lid or put bungee cords on the ones you have. Feed them normally. Take stool sample within to your vet and have them tested for tapeworms.
Are they rescues from the streets? In rescues who have have a hard time getting food, what you describe is somewhat common, as they are not yet convinced that in that will be a regular supply of food for them.
If they are rescues, it will solve itself with time. In the meanwhile, you know what you have to protect and keep absent from them.
That they ate an entire days amount in one sitting and didn't upchuck tells one a lot.
Give them something they can work on--there's rubber ball with holes in the side that you put dry food in for dogs to roll and save occupied, cats can work with these too.
Put some boxes around with crumpled rag in and a very small handful of dry food, let them scrounge surrounded by that instead of the garbage cans.
It sounds like they're awfully bored. Maybe leave the radio on for them to have some mental stimulation, or the tv running while you're gone. I'd also leave out some ping pong ball for them to bat around, those are safe toys.
sounds like they are bored they also could have tapeworm cassette worm will look like small pieces of rice in there poop
Answers: They could have worms. Internal parasites lift all the nutrients from the cat so the cat could eat all sunshine and still not get the food amount it needs. I would go to the vet and obtain a broad spectrum dewormer. You can get worm medicine from a pet shop, but for that you would need to know what type of worms they own (roundworm, tapeworm, hookworm, etc.) Even if you have had them dewormed contained by the past they can get them again.
They could also be bored if this started out of the blue. Get them some toys or make some. You can bear an old paper towel roll, put treats inside, close both ends and then create tiny holes so they can see and smell the food but they will hav to break it apart to catch a treat! Start putting your food away, leave nothing out and return with a lock for cabinets and your trash can, if they have another outlet for their joie de vivre where food is involved, they will take it. You could also get special food bowls set on a timer to single give certain amounts of food at set times.
