Comforting a cat next to phantom sensation?

My cat was declawed almost 2 months ago and has be prefering to stand like a tripod, he holds his right paw up. We took him back to the vet and she said he is fine and that he was experiencing a phantom sensation.

How do I know whether he's in pain? Will this go absent after awhile, and if it will how long until it's gone?
Answers:    Ummm no, thats a load of bull. Take your kitty somewhere else. I work at a vet clinic and the cat should not still be bothered by the declaw. The last time we have a kitty come in that was holding up its paw, it still had a fastener stuck in there and had to budge through the surgery again. I would definitely find a different vet and possibly get xrays. Dont you think its weird that only one paw is bothering your kitty? Why would he only have phantom distress in one? Thats retarded.
Find a new vet. Quickly.
