Companion for 8 year older cat. Kitten or mature?
My fiance and I have decided to adopt a second cat within the next few months. We need to do it when we have a few days to spend at domestic to make sure the cats settle in together. So it may not be till after the holidays.
Our current cat is 8 years feeble and a fixed female. In the past she has lived beside two other females. never any males.
I'm wondering if it's better to get an adult cat ( 4 years and up) or a immature cat ( 8 months-2 years)
I'm hearing mixed things from my family and fellow cat lovers. Some say a young-looking cat does best, because the older cat sees it as non threatening and will adopt it as though it were it's own. This happen when we introduced out cat to our older previous cat. She took it in approaching her own kitten.
Others are saying it's better to match cats that are close in age.
Lately our cat seem really lonely and we though she could do with a friend. So any advice on what age or gender of cat would be great.
Also looking for proposal from Spca workers as we plan on adopting an SPCA cat.
My fiance is wondering is it is possible to do a trial run with a new cat. I really don't feel this is needed. because having grown up with cats I know that they do quicky learn that they attain alone. But he's wondering what to do if they do not get alone. ( he's with me while I write this and insisting I affix it to my question. I think he's being a bit foolish.)
Get a kitten. Older cats enjoy the discovery of small cats. They'll be playful and happy together :] hope this help!
it depends on the cat
if your cat is lad back a kitten might be perfect
if your cat is really protective and might attack a young kitten then don't bring one if your cat is declawed get a kitten
when we got our kittens they be five weeks old and they [ when they finally left the porch] beat up the neighbors cats
Answers: Your cat will not likely respond well to any new cat brought within. Most hiss and what not and sometimes they come to enjoy each others company but it is also plenty common for them to simply tolerate one another.
That being said it is hard to tell you which to find since the age will not make a great deal of difference. They entertain themselves in good health so a kitten would play fine alone or with you if the older one have no interest in playing with it.
My personal choice is going to be to adopt an older cat. Older cats are recurrently overlooked because many people want those cute little playful kittens.
Adopting from a shelter is fantastic and really you should in recent times go there with an instigate mind and adopt whicever draws your attention.
get a kitten, like other people said the kitten will not be see as a threat and your cat might adopt it as its own. Also kittens love to play so the kitten might bring out the kitten in your cat! They'll be best buds!
Cats are not flock or pack animals.
They live as individuals. They do not take to intruders as well as a dog might. Cats often similar to to have the whole place to themselves and not have a roommate.
If she seem lonely, maybe another adult cat would be nice. remember if you take two cats the same age they will get old and eventually die around matching time. That sucks.
Cats like humans have different natures. Some are sociable some are not. Some carry on with other cats some are loners. I think if you get a younger cat it would settle in better and accept the older cat. Remember to supervise them when they are together to prevent any fight breaking out.As your cat is a female she wont be as territorial as a male so that should help.Given time they will adopt one another though they might not be best buddies. I had two who ignored each other and wouldn't sit on matching chair etc. but when my son brought his dog they teamed up against him. I don't think it's a good belief having a trial run as this could be upsetting for the new cat if you fixed not to keep it. Glad you are going to take a rescue cat, the ones I have turned out to be some of the best I owned.
I would gain a young cat. I think the older one would be more accepting of it. In increase, you would hopefully still have a pet left when the older one is no longer beside you.
