Does my cat possibly hold stud tail?
she is a 3 year old spayed female,
and for the past while i notice she had greasy hair especially on her tail so i took a look at it a while ago and the skin looked bluish next to little blackish specks all over in one spot...
Stud tail is strictly see in male cats. She likely have a flea allergy. Cats with flea allergies react badly whether even one flea gets on them.
Females can have stud tail too, it's usually right along the first 3" of tail where on earth it attaches to the body. Very greasy, with skin that can become infected with pimples.
Soap and water minister to clean off a lot of the grease, but it's not a full cure.
Answers: While I have never see it, does not mean it cannot happen. Looks like blackheads & pimples??
If *really* bleak, you might be forced to shave the tail in the section where the "stud tail" is until you attain it cleared up.
Clean w/ a soft tooth brush & mild shampoo. Sebolux (sp?) from the vet is the best shampoo, it is sulfur based like full-grown acne medication.
Once you get it really clean, use a daily vinegar rinse to cut the grease from the skin w/out damaging the coat. If you can find one of those bottles w/ a sponge on it for moistening stamps - even better... use it to "paint" the vinegar on.
