First time going to the vet?
I just adopted two 4 month old kitty. I have never been to the vet before.( They own with their old owner) They are going for their pre spay/neuter appointment. What should I expect? What do I put in the cat possessor to make them feel better? Its an hour drive away because they come with free certificates to have th surgery. Thanks!
Well, its a good idea to put something next to your scent on it in the carrier, that way,the cats know you will be posterior for them and feel secure.
Put a soft, not-too-thick blankie surrounded by the carrier, a couple of furry little fake mice or tinkly balls would be enough and you're good to go as far as the drive. Talk soothingly to them on the drive, have some soothing music on for them.
You'll travel into the vet, say your name and that you have an appointment at ________ next to Dr. __________. They'll have you sit down until the Vet is ready. You'll go into a room beside your kitties, they'll take their temperatures, may do some bloodwork or other test, depending on what has already been done. I'm sure they haven't have their 3-in-1 vaccinations yet (they are given 3 weeks apart), so he may give them their first inoculation.
Vets are pretty cool people, compassionate. It'll be a good experience. There are usually race there with their animals you can talk to and they'll ask give or take a few yours, etc.
It'll be a good time, you'll see! :-)
p.s. Might bring an extra soft blanket and some baby wipe or kitty wipes in case they evolve to pee on the long ride there - that way you can change it out once you bring back there.
Answers: Put a nice towel contained by the carrier to keep them warm and engage any potential accidents. Maybe a few kibble as a peace offering more than anything else. Carry water and a water bowl for them to enjoy before they go back into the carter on the way home.
The best thing you can do is be as tranquil as possible. If you are freaking they will think that there is something to freak about. Talk contained by low tones to them, on the drive and while waiting. Turn their carrier away from other animals in the waiting room.
Write down question now. Often you will get nervous or discern rushed and will forget anything you might want to know about.
You will be fine. Vets do this all the time and know that you might be nervous too.
