Help... we can't find our different cat surrounded by our domestic?
We adopted a 4 year old female cat, we enjoy a 10 year old cat. The evening we brought Delores home, she hid lower than my bed, after a while she let my son and I pet her for the rest of the evening. We took her in the basement to see her litter and food. Once we woke up, I own not been able to find her anywhere in our domestic, there is no way she got external, especially overnight. I went to work and still can't find her this evening, I am worried she is stuck or hurt, we have search with flash lights...any advice. please help us!
Cats are very good at hiding when they don't care to be found.
Have you tried cracking embark on a can of cat food? Sometimes the sound of that will being them out.
Check cabinets. Drawers too. Two of mine hide in the small bathroom cabinet drawers for nearly a month when they came to live here.
Under all furniture even whether you think they couldn't fit. A rescue kitty hid under her family bedside tables when she was adopted and upset the tar out of them.
Over the kitchen cabinets. Behind the fridge (one of mine fell back here and got stuck once). Behind the washer/dryer.
In the box springs of a bed.
The most evasive hiding places for cats include:
- inside the box springs of a bed (look for holes in the fabric underneath)
- inside the sofa (again, look for holes)
- inside open closets
- inside any open cabinets (or cabinet that were left open and subsequent shut)
- underneath any low-riding tables or shelves
a new cat will most likely look for a cloudy, quiet area where they can whip cover and not be found. You have to look EVERYWHERE at least twice, because especially surrounded by dark places, they can be sitting right in front of you and you won't see them. Remember to look UP too, and check the Christmas tree if you hold one. Good luck, you'll find her soon.
...Something else too...Female cats are VERY territorial. And your 10yr old was there 1st. I would not be surprised whether she has run Delores into hiding by showing her who is boss, So I agree with "locking" the 10yr old up. I would propose a room where there is a nice sized crack at the bottom, that way when Delores get brave (or hungry) enough to come out of hiding, she can get to know the 10 yr weak on her terms without any real damage befalling either cat. And just a head up...there may be a LOT of growling, hissing and spitting, there may even be a couple of licks passed lower than the door. But this will keep Delores safe and give the 10yr elderly the opportunity to get used to the smell of her new roommate.
If she is stuck she will probably cry out for help even though she is new to your familial. Because of her age, she is probably just hiding somewhere b/c she is scared. Is there any opening in your home where she could've gotten out? If not, consequently maybe try to shake a bag of treats or a bag of food and I don`t know she will come out to you. If not, then I would just play the waiting game and linger for her to come out when she's ready :o)
She's most likely just hiding, which cats are very pious at doing. How was she with the 10 year old cat? You may want to lock the 10 year ancient in a different part of the house (a room or something) in bag that one is scaring off the new cat.
In the meantime, put out a can of tuna or something smelly that cats close to, and just wait. if she's really terrified she might not even come out until night time to get food, water and use the bathroom. Once you find the cat, it might be best whether you put the cat, its litter box, bedding, food, water, etc into a "safe room" and leave the cat within for a few days to a couple of weeks depending on the cat. This lets the cat get used to the sounds and smells of the house without getting overwhelmed.
In most cases the cat will report you when it's ready to explore the rest of the house.
Try turning off the lights, and walk around beside a flashlight, and you'll probably see her eyes reflect to the light.. shes probably just worried.
You could try to open a can of cat food. Check EVERYWHERE, I mean every little corner in the house.
Good luckk! I hope you find her.
Look EVERYWHERE, in every little corner, behind pipes and even places you dont imagine she could fit. Leave some food out in the basement and see if some of its eat in the morning. Just to make sure the cat IS still around. Try calling her softly. Look beneath things like sofa or whatever. Good luck, it must be scary and I hope you find her nontoxic and well.
Oh my integrity. I hope you find her! Good luck!
Answers: Cats, once within a new surrounding, often get anxious and seek out a safe place. Of course, only they know the locked place. Mine have found sanctuary in hiding behind a kitchen cabinet; hiding lying on the clothes closet (climbing up the clothes), and in a myriad of places that I would not have thought to look. Even when I thought I knew adjectives the places, there have been times I looked contained by all the 'usual' spaces, to no avail only to turn around and see her, looking totally unmoved at my concerns. They can make themselves completely small, and even hide behind books in a bookcase. Even over the refrigerator is a common hiding spot.
Some cats have found away to find above the ceiling in a basement.
As long as you know she couldn't have gotten external, just see if there are additional deposits in the litter box. That will tell you she is all right, and simply making herself scarce. She will come out on her own terms.
Set out some more food and CLEAN THE LITTER BOX, so that it's SMOOTH. If you go back subsequently, and the box shows signs of having been used, you know she's still down there, but she's hiding.
She may be hiding within the basement, behind, under, or inside something. If you own a freezer, washer, or dryer down there, check under and behind them. Cats close to the heat that a freezer motor puts out. Be sure to look inside the dryer ...then KEEP THE DOOR SHUT!! If she get under the washer, be sure she's not there, BEFORE you run it.
Have you taken your 10 yr older cat with you to "hunt" for Delores? Sometimes one cat will show you where another one is hiding! If there's a chance that she's NOT surrounded by the basement, set out another litter box somewhere in the house, where she can find it..along near food and water.
Someone posted a similar question on here a few months ago, and it turned out that the cat was on a bookshelf, hiding BEHIND accounts! Another one.(seems like people are always losing their cats!) finally found theirs up contained by a small place where some tiles were loose in a bathroom.another be found in the back of a closet where in that was a pile of clothes, and the door had inadvertently gotten shut!
So.you're not the only one to hold this problem. Hope you find her soon.and she's ok. Good luck.
Shake a box of cat food or try running the can introduction if she eats wet food
