How do I train my cat to come wager on domestic?
I want to train my kitty (in the city) to be an outdoor/indoor cat. Or at least be able to follow me outside near out running away to get some fresh air.
You can't - unless its in a harness attached to a leash. The outdoors is VERY dangerous for cats particularly so in a city as there's lots and lots of vehicles. If you want an animal you can walk around near outdoors get a dog.
If the cat is glowing inside, then I would you suggest you keep it inside. So lots cats are hit by cars or lost each year (I work next to the pound).
But if you want an indoor outdoor cat near are things you can do to keep him safer. First of all, only contribute him supervised visits to start with. Maybe even get a head, so you can have a little walk together near no fear of running off. Once he gets used to this and you be aware of it is safe, you can let him out by himself.
To keep cats safer, put together them afraid of cars. This sounds mean, but works. Everything you are out with your cat, and a car go past, yell and scream and clap your hand. This makes the cat associate cars with bad things.
Please build sure your cat is microchiped (a collar helps but can be hard to hold on a cat). If your cat is going outside you might want to get a cat AIDs injection, as cats pass it on during cat fight, and if your cat is outside it will end up contained by a fight.
Good luck.
An outdoor city cat = a dead city cat
Female cats are less likely to roam and get lost. Males inevitability a much larger territory to rule - your neighbour's cat could be a female.
I once inherited a ripened Abyssinian male cat who had been an outdoor boy and he have been taught to come to a whistle - the way individuals whistle to dogs to call them - by his owner whistling whenever it was food time. When the cat be out in a neighbour's garden, the owner only had to whistle and the Abi would come leap over the hedges thinking it was food time (he would always be given something as a reward even whether it wasn't)
Outdoor cats are much more of a worry, more protective injections higher Vets bills for contracted illnesses and accidents - a broken leg can cost you thousands of dollars, - but their enthusiasm expectation is a great deal shorter, so the costs even out I suppose.
You need to train kitty to walk on a harness. They love it once they catch used to it. Cats are not like dogs & will not just follow you when you want. An outside cat surrounded by the city is very likely to either gain lost/stolen, hurt in a fight with a stray, run over or lock in feline aids or other feline infectious disease. If you really want kitty to go out side variety a cage run out a window & into a tree or along the fence, cats love them. You can also cat proof a element of your yard by putting a barrier sloping inwards on the top of your fence [as long as your barricade is high enough]& making sure there are no trees or bins etc close to the wall. Cats that are inside all their lives are fine as long as they get enough attention & games that stimulate them.
your guy subsequent door is just lucky to have a cat willing to do that but most will back up running sooner or later. It only takes a loud blow or something for the cat to get a fright & run. Desexed cats are more likely to stay home & seasoned age cats.
Don't let it out.
Cats are domesticated animals and should be kept indoors. ESPECIALLY in the city, whether you want your cat to go outside with you, put it within a cat harness and put it on a leash
Answers: Use a leash and harness. A outdoor cat contained by the city will get spooked by all the noises and lift off to run and hide. Also there are plenty of stray dogs and cats that may pick a fracas with your cat. Don't leave them outside unattended and unrestrained.
