How should I nurture the cat?
My cat is 8 years old and has always be allowed to graze. she's always been active and never overweight. Now that we own a puppy (7mths old) my mother wants to give the cat food as two meals, morning and hours of darkness. Im not sure that she will adjust to this being fairly ripened... any thoughts??
My opinion is she is accustomed to a certain lifestyle, why loose change it because of a new addition? Animals have inner health too.
thats fine as long as you lock it up in a room ontil its has eatan,whether it doesnt eat like this try switching to wet or moist cat food,it will guzzle that right away.You also might need to keep dog absent from litter box becouse some dogs like to eat cat poop,so i would say hang on to the door shut in the room where you have the litter box and install a kitty door,that is to say if your dog is going to get bigger then your cat.
I think I'd just put the food up superior so the cat can still graze. It's the best way to feed a cat. They only chomp through a few bites here and there and prefer it that way.
Cats eat naturally several small meals over the sunshine, when they feel like it. That's not too old age to memorize new things.
She might and probably will be confused (hungry too) and complain for a time. Just give food always at one and the same time so she'll learn to wait for it. It won't hurt to at first give a bit more than normally and then go back to middle-of-the-road again when she knows when to expect food.
Answers: Cats prefer to be able to 'snack' on food, rather than eat it within meals. They don't normally eat contained by big portions, and when they do, most times they end up throwing it up later. So I would have to say-so that it is potentially a bad decision, especially since she is used to grazing.

We have 2 cats and a dog contained by our house. We placed the cats dish on a card table so the dog cannot reach it. The cats still can graze at will.
You'll find that your cat will find more demanding if you change her habits but she'll eventually obtain used to it and start to look forward to feed time.
Nows a great time to train your puppy to stay away from the cats food. Dogs shouldn't be allowed to graze. If the food is down all the time it will other sneak food.
Think the main problem will be keeping the puppy away from the cat food.
