I have a kitty, 2 monthes old. she was 1day aged orphan kitten
when I first found her. and since then, she's with us.
Now, she's a really crazeh kitty. and we love it
but... she's scratch the sofa, and bites us [she's playing]
how do we make her stop doing it?
Thanks!
you have to buy a scratching post. cats stipulation to scratch,. and if they have the leeway of using the scratching post, it is much easier to train her to leave the furniture alone. if you find they are too expensive, you can receive one yourself with wood and carpet.
Hi there... consider trimming her nail every 10 days which will blunt the ends which discourages the destruction to furnishings. Here's an instructional video on how to trim cat's nails safely: http://partnersah.vet.cornell.edu/pet/fh...
Be sure to include a range of types of scratching posts around the home. Some cats prefer different types of textures over one another as very well as scratching horizontally or vertically.
As for the biting, it's important to abruptly agree to out a piercing ouch and then gently remove her and walk absent. Cats dislike being ignored, therefore when she isn't biting be certain to shower her with affection. Eventually over time she will soon realize that she garners no attention when she bites.
Answers: This is a very natural article for cats to do but you can
1. Get a scratching post..
2. With this scratching post put a very small amount of cat nip by this and it will attract the your kitty at hand... if you need to put the scratching post where on earth she loves to scratch to deter here from the sofa
3. Jefferspet.com has an item that is call Simple Solution Repellent... put some on a rag (a small amount) and put it by the areas where you do not want your cat to be. I had to do this near my sheers in my living room. My cat thinks they are play in... So I bought this and sprayed some on a napkin... bingo works.
4. you can get a can and fill it full of pennies and keep this on appendage when you are around and she does this shake it...the noise will kinda scare her and a good infatuation breaker
5. There is an always a scat mat also from Jeffers... Had to break my cat from jumping on my stove... very risky thing to do... she could have gotten burnt...so when the stove be off I put that in place and what it does is lightly give them a snap so they quit.. This works well
6. PLEASE NO HISSING AT ME... many will take a strong stand against declawing AND Try not mediate people for decisions made as long as they were thought out and spoken next to your VET thoroughly...
You could have her front paws de-clawed (she must be at least 4-5 months old)... in a minute there is laser to make this much easier
BUT she must at all times. remain to be a total house cat and I can not articulate that enough a total house cat... I did this…. it was easier... MY cat was 5 months old-fashioned at the time and she healed fine and now 8 years old… I LOVE MY BABY. And I know how much she loves me... at night she wraps her front paws/legs around my moved out arm and sleeps with her head there. SOOOO cute. I KNOW copious people think this is mean but it is what is best for respectively household, SO please again NO JUDGING!
... As any surgery we have... as a human it will hurt for about a week. same for the cat...but if care for properly they will heal as we do and forget
As far as the biting when she is playing ... get a toy and every time she does this, put that in her mouth... to start to break the dependence.
Good Luck and many years of happiness with your hot family member.
Gve your cat a scratch post. Then every time she starts scratching the sofa, you clutch her away and place her by the scratch post. She will learn to one and only use that.
something like this one will do: http://pet.imageg.net/graphics/product_i...
Get her a claw post...some cats like the rope type and others resembling the carpet type...both are available at any pet store or pet section of Walmart
I suggest adjectives her nails every week and buy her a scratch pole, and if that doesn't work, try making the pole yourself near the same fabric the sofa is.
Do you have a biddable quality scratching post? You should get a few of the thoughtful you can strap around table/chair legs too, they aren't expensive. If she is uninterested, try spraying it with catnip or rubbing some of the herb in. If she bites you, speak OW! loudly and try hissing, but not too much. Don't play with her for a little while after that. Remember to praise her after a playing session near no biting. If she continues to bite, go to the vet or wear long gardening gloves.
EDIT: Don't shout her name when scolding. It makes her assosiate her first name with a bad thing. Say her label softly while stroking her as a reward.
EDIT 2: Never never never declaw. It's the same as humans getting cut down to the first knuckle. Cats need their claws to keep not detrimental and protect themselves. Declawed cats bite twice as much instead of scratching. http://declaw.lisaviolet.com/
